The science museum and the natural history museum are both very good

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 13/04/2011 18:37

the aquarium?

not been myself but DS1 (26yrs) said DD (3yrs) would love it, and your DCs seem to be in the middle age gap of those

queenebay · 13/04/2011 18:38

madame tussards is also very good

AtYourCrucifix · 13/04/2011 18:41

fel nauseous at the thought of the science museum during school holidays Grin

Museum of childhood is very good, apparently. Museum of London too. Transport museum? Camden town? Royal observatory?

Does it have to be educational ?
I'd take them to Camden Market in the morning - which is an education in itself I find. Feed them at the wonderful stalls there then back on the Tube and take a trip on the Thames to Hampton Court. Lose them in the maze while you relax !!
Back to Leicester Square for a quick foray into the dreaded Trocadero finish up with a meal in Planet Hollywood.

Teenagers will love Camden market
Covent garden is also good - very trendy shops towards Neal's Yard and you can sit and relax in a cafe and watch the world go by

AtYourCrucifix · 13/04/2011 22:14

campden market a distinct possible maybe Grin

thames trip also good.

now - if the weather is warm and sunny that would be perfect.

thanks all.

Age and gender? The big TopSHop/Top Man, then H&M seem to always be winners. The scoot up the road for Primark! If their v fashion-y, Portobello or Spitalfields, depending on day of travel. Camden good I think if they're more emo-ish/metaller.

A left-field thought - a Jack the Ripper walk?

AtYourCrucifix · 13/04/2011 22:28

2 girls 13 and 14. rather not do shops. theres only so much new look/primark a mother can take. markets a good idea.

If they're interested in the wedding, you could do the 'royal' sites, so they have their bearings when (if) they watch on tv?

A quick trip round the Tate Modern I think always goes down surprisingly well with that age group.

AtYourCrucifix · 14/04/2011 14:25

I'm interestedin the wedding. They aren't. I also took them to the Tate modern a couple of years ago. They have it near the top of their all time worst daysout. philistines.

Last time we went as a family, dd1 was 15 and dd2 13. Things they enjoyed included:

Big Topshop and Urban Outfitters on Oxford Street (I left them to it and went to John Lewis!);

coffee on Carnaby Street;

costume and jewellery bits at the V&A;

walk around all the touristy bits taking lots of cheesy photographs - eg girl and pigeon / girl and red phone box / girl and Big Ben in background etc!

Covent Garden;

Saint James' Park;

lunch at Wagamamas near Selfridges.
