You don'tneed a whole day to do the zoo to be honest but there is always @bristol or the Aquarium.

greedygoose · 13/04/2011 18:17

@Bristol? Sounds interesting, what is the aquarium like SHA?? Wanting fairly near M5, gotbto get back to Cumbria at some point!

The Aquarium

I've not been yet, but it looks good from the outside. It's part of the same complex as @Bristol, which is fab.

GeorgeEliot · 13/04/2011 18:33

The SS Great Britain is fab.

My kids also really enjoyed a recent visit to @Bristol

A boat trip round the docks is also good - you can hop off at the SS Great Britain.

overthesea · 14/04/2011 19:13

Depends how old your children are but down at the redeveloped docks is the @Bristol www.at-bristol.org.uk/

Loads of hands on experiments, a cafe, really great fun and a car park right underneath. It would easily kill a couple of hours.

I think the aquarium is nice but a bit small. We did it in an hour.

SaggyHairyArse · 14/04/2011 19:28

The Aquarium is nice but like overthesea it didn't take us long and it is expensive so I don't think it is good value for money (however I had a voucher and so only paid £18 for 4 of us).

I really like @bristol, it is interesting for adults and children, it's about 20 mins from M5 Portishead.

The SS Great Britain is good too!

greedygoose · 14/04/2011 21:10

@Bristol it is looks awesome and never would have known about it if you hadn't suggested! Thanks

We stopped at the Zoo on the way back from Devon last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think we had about 3 or 4 hours there.

We are considering doing the same again this year as ds has asked if we can go back.

overthesea · 15/04/2011 10:14

You won't be disappointed with @bristol and because it is in the nice dock area, if you have time (and it is a nice day) you can catch a covered boat for a 30 min trip down the river from just around the corner.

Make sure you go to the underground carpark beside the museum. It is nice and modern and secure.

Lookandlearn · 18/04/2011 13:27

The Bristol museum and art gallery has a bit of everything. At top of park street, can walk up from @Bristol. Has some Egypt stuff, dinosaur exhibition. My children love it and it's free. Looks a bit like a mini natural history museum.

Just wanted to feed back that @Bristol was one of the highlights of our holiday to Cornwall (and that was awesome too...GO on the Camel Trail on your bikes best day out for kids ever, and babies and dogs could go too, those trailers are so cool) All our kids age 2,4,6 had a ball all really interactive and family friendly, took the grandparents too and they thought it was amazing, so thank you to you all for the suggestion.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming back and letting us know goosey [csmile]

So often OPs don't and it (maybe irrationally) irritates me. That and makes me wonder if I've given duff advice [cgrin]
