Does anyone know anything about singles holidays abroad?

Have you been on one? I don't mean 18-30 but the more, shall we say, cultured variety Wink
A good single friend of mine is in dire need of a holiday abroad and everyone else is loved up or skint. I'm both. I'd go with her but have ds1's French trip to fork out for, plus don't think dp would be too impressed Grin

I found one on Skyros that looks good, they do writing holdays etc..

Any advice much appreciated, TIA

A family member of mine (female, mid 30s) went on one in a hotel in a Greek island. Not a place to meet men (there were about 25 women to 2 men!) but she had a riot, made friends for life and goes back every year. She meets up with her friends through the year too. When she first mentioned it I was a bit Hmm but its been fantastic. I am jealous, would love to go on one!

Curiousmama · 10/04/2011 15:55

Thanks SP. Yes this one is on a greek island, wonder if it's the same one?

the trouble is you dont want them to be geeky and formal but, you dont want loads of bedhopping either.

I met a bunch last year in San Francisco, there were about 15 of them more men then women and had been on a ten day outdoor trip around California. Lots of sightseeing during the day and drinking by the campfire on a night. Sounded great, I thought.

It is a horrible situation to be in. Having the money and no-one to go with. I sympathise.

That's why I thought Greece would be good? She is very low at the moment, totally lonely Sad She's so intelligent and gorgeous though, life's unfair at times.

I've been on Mark Warner holidays alone and it's great. The summer trip i went on was to Lakitira in Greece. There were lots of families with pre-school age kids but I rarely saw them as they had breakfast and dinner much earlier than I did.

If you say you are willing to share a room, they don't charge a single supplement and on arrival we were told that all the people without kids were meeting in the bar at 7pm to get to know each other. After that we hung out together all week. There was an adults beach, two pools and one was much more kid friendly than the other so we hung out around the other. Activities wise there were free windsurfing, dinghy saling and watersking lessons and beach volleyball every sunset. Had a blast and am still friends with two of the girls I met there. I also booked last nimute so it was v cheap! I'd definitely go again if stuck!

Other good place to look at are The Hill that Breathes for yoga based holidays (I've never been there myself) and guided walking holidays. Nothing like a good hike in gorgeous scenery to raise the spirits. I have looked at these walks in the past but it isn't specifically a singles holiday which may appeal more to your friend?

Also if the purpose is to have a nice holiday rather than meet single people Explor and Exodus so some great trips from cycling in the Loire to African roadtrips. Or there are companies offering photography breaks, writing, cooking, painting holidays. She has so many choices and no one to please but herself!

kittya · 10/04/2011 17:07

They are all so expensive though!! I wouldnt fancy sharing a room myself.

Let me know what you find. I think those on the California trip had booked with Exodus.

Curiousmama · 10/04/2011 19:22

thanks choux I'll pass on the info. I hope she manages to get away she really needs this.

Haven't gone on one but havw heard from people tehy are great, but apprrently much does depend on luck whether you land a good group or not , but i supose you could say that about most things involving groups of people ...

Curiousmama · 11/04/2011 10:20

thanks, she is over 35. I'll show her this.

I'd get her to go to Le Sport in St Lucia, I've been 5 times now, a couple of times with a partner, twice with a friend and once on my own and its fantastic.

Will hopefully go again next year.
