Hong Kong and Brazil with a 7 month old - what to take?

(And yikes!)

We're off on a bit of a marathon shortly - to HK for DP's brother's wedding, thence to Brazil (via Amsterdam Hmm) for a holiday we'd planned before we heard about the wedding. In Brazil we'll be flying to Sao Paulo and also taking a coach to the south of the country for a few days. We'll be hiring a car during some of this bit of the trip.

So far we're planning to take sunscreen, calpol, stroller, car seat, insect repellect, one or two toys, and a sling along with the obvious things like clothes, hats, shoes, camera (not too posh in case of thieves), phone (likewise), passports. What do we need to be sure we don't forget?

We'll take some disposable nappies along but will need to buy more no doubt - any info on whether this might be tricky in either place? DD is EBF apart from the solids she's started on, but that's with BLW so ought to be reasonably easy.

Thanks in advance!

Swim nappies are also on our list.

I'm in Sao Paulo - can help you with any thing specific to Brazil (pm me if you want). Smile
Diapers etc should be ok in Sao Paulo (Huggies and other decent brands) and other baby supplies, but you may need to re-stock before heading down south, depending on where you're going. Sao Paulo is almost a different country!!!

Let me know any other q's, happy to help!

BTW, if you're coming now in the middle of the year, and especially if you are travelling down south, bring sweaters - you'll be surprised at how cold it can feel. Its more humid than UK so even if the temps are, say 15-18C, it feels like a lot less. Plus no heating inside (things built to be cool in summer) means its often cooler inside than out.

Thanks Geocentric. We're going to Curitiba and Florianopolis so I'd assume that nappies should be easy enough to get there too. Any local brands we should look out for that are cheaper than Pampers / Huggies but also good?

I used to live in Sao Paulo and before that in Florianopolis but it's been quite a while since I went to the south - Floripa in particular seems to have grown massively since my time (early 1980s). Good point about the sweaters - the weather forecast looks good at present, but I know it can get cooler than you expect, and as you say, no indoor heating makes a big difference.

Ah well, you're a local, then... Grin
Lots of cheaper options for nappies but so not worth it. Just stick to (overpriced) Pampers - you can find those anywhere!
