I am going on my first family holiday! I have a 7yr old and a 5mnth old and we are staying in a villa in europe, does anyone have any travel tips for flying or general travel which may help make this a smooth holiday for both children (and me and my man!)

Thanks x

Is the little one ff or bf? If ff, have you thought about taking liquids on the plane?
My dd, now 8, packs her own travel rucksack, from Millets, with books, puzzles books, drawing stuff etc for the journey. She then carries it herself.

DD has a pull along bag thing that has been on every plane that she's ever been on. In it she now has a portable DVD player and a load of books. She also has a pack of cards and a wipe clean board and white board markers.
Hangman and noughts and crosses are faves of hers.
She really does feel very important when she pulls her bright pink case along. We may have to rethink it though, she is nearly 10.

If ff you will need to taste the milk - I took the cool boiled water with a pot of formula so only had to taste the water!

Ds was 6 months when he first flew so I fed him at take off to stop poppy ears! Thankfully he slept most of the flight!

I took ellas organics pouches with us and was pleased I did. You could get c and g jars where we were but very expensive.

Thanks, thats a good idea to get my DD to pack herself an activity bag for the flight, wipe clean boards will be a must have!

My DS who will be 5mnths is mixed fed, so will BF on the flight for ease, we hope he wont be weaning untill 6mnths so food for him wont be needed, i'm so worried i will forget to pack something important!

I wrote a list of everything as I thought of it so I could tick things off. It ended up stupidly long but it helped!

We go away in June and I have already started the list!

If you are buying formula abroad, be careful to read the packaging..I was stunned to find in Austria, the formula was flavoured with vanilla, biscuit or chocolate!!! There was plain powder, but couldn't find any ready made cartons without flavouring. We were in a small ski resort supermarket though.

Good point Boat, our DD was exclusively FF, when we bought her to England for her first holiday I think I nearly poisoned her by doubling the scoops. In the ME where FF is very rare, people want to think they are getting their money's worth so the feed is lighter.
Check the tin or packet for mixing instructions.
