Crealy Cornwall or Flambards?

FreddoBaggyMac · 01/04/2011 12:21

We have the choice of going to one or the other while we're on holiday with our four children (all six and under). Any advise on whether we'll have a better day out at Crealy or at Flambards?

Christ, you will have a better day staying indoors.

Or walk down a rain soaked beach.

Flambards is bloody awful. I have never been to the Crealy in Cornwall but have been to the Exeter one and that was crap.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2011 12:27

Sorry that was about as helpful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

FreddoBaggyMac · 01/04/2011 12:34

That's OK Getorf Grin we are doing the rain soaked beachy things on other days which I must admit is preferable to me also - but we're allowing the kids one day of theme park madness... and we have tesco vouchers to pay so it is not as painful!

We have had a fab day a both. You just have to remember it is Cornwall so never going to be as thrilling as Alton Towers or Thorpe Park Grin.

It's years since we have been to either but unless they are really into history I would go for the Crealy option as they have a fab indoor play thing.

chocoholic · 01/04/2011 12:53

Just noticed they are all under 6.
Definitely Crealy.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2011 12:54

I would agree that Crealy would be the most pain free option of them both.

Flambards is awful.

I am not usually such a miserable awld bat, but I used to live in North Devon, and in the summer holidays (back when I was too skint to go abroad) I used to traipse DD round all manner of places like this (Watermouth Castle, The Big Sheep, fucking Gnome World, Crealy) so I have a natural antipathy to west country theme parks Grin

I hope you have a lovely time.

4 kids under 6 at Crealy?

FreddoBaggyMac · 01/04/2011 13:00

Thanks. Seems like Crealy might be the best bet then - glad I asked because we were edging towards Flambards. We're also doing the big sheep Getorf but I draw the line at Gnome world... just the thought of lots of gnomes altogether in one place makes me feel all on edge. I'll wear my badge with pride on our day out at Crealy Grin

Crealy as there are indoor options and 'smaller' indoor areas for smaller ones. If they have the huge balls on a pond still my dd then 4 loved it and queued happily for 30 mins for a go ! I think Crealy is great fun for smaller ones . Also Paradise Park is a nce day out as well. Check the West Briton for coupons as often there are discounts .

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2011 13:15

I don't know where you are staying in Cornwall, but two places which are really good are Combe Martin Dinosaur park in Combe Martin, north devon, and Exmoor Zoo (somewhere on Exmoor, near Bratton Fleming iirc) but that might be a bit of a trek from Cornwall.

link to discount vouchers for Big Sheep and Crealy don't know if you have seen this

FreddoBaggyMac · 01/04/2011 13:20

Thanks Getorf and Rosa Smile I will check out the Dinosaur park. I'll have a look at the discount vouchers but I don't think we'll be able to use them in combination with tesco vouchers Sad It may well work out less expensive to use the discount vouchers though as we only have £30 of tesco vouchers for crealy... will check it out and do my sums!

Often there are vouchers in the tourist board print outs but they tend to be low season stuff. The papers have weekly offers - Paradise Park gives the most 1 free adult wilth 2 children or half price adult kind of thing. I know we got one for Crealy as well and it was August. DD got a free return pass and seeing as we will be there in May and August it was worth it. If you are looking also for free / low cost ideas see if you can pick up ( or borrow ) a copy of Kids Cornwall ....Useful ! Think there are 3 editions now.

chocoholic · 02/04/2011 09:26

The Big Sheep was fab. I still have my winners mug from the sheep race. Have also been to the Coombe Martin Dinosaur Park and that is brilliant. Totally bizarre (as many things in that part of the world are) but a really entertaining day out.

You must do the light show it is one of the funniest things I've done Grin

NorthernGobshite · 02/04/2011 09:41

Flambards is very expensive for what is essentially a second rate theme park. We went last year and it costs us around 50 quid to get in for 2 adults and 1 child and whilst dd enjoyed it, it was by no means value for money.

FreddoBaggyMac · 02/04/2011 15:10

Thanks everyone! Am edging towards ditching both Flambards and Crealy and perhaps doing the Dinosaur Park instead Smile

Is the dinosaur park still open? I can't seem to get on the website.
Freddo -it could be a long way from where you're staying unless you're in north cornwall.

Thanks again everyone. We've decided to completely change our plans and ditch the theme park idea altogether - there are too many lovely other places to visit near where we're going to waste time at theme parks... the only one we're actually considering now is the gnome reserve Smile which I originally thought sounded quite horrific... it's not really a theme park as such anyway, and it's a lot cheaper than the other places mentioned!
