Can I take knitting or crochet in my carry-on luggage?

Depends on the airport, the airline and the mood of the person checking your bag.

Take a stamped address envelope so you can post it to yourself if you aren't allowed.

And wooden needles/hooks

You wont be allowed to carry them on but they should be ok in your suitcase.

Yes, an elderly lady I know said that she was not allowed to take her knitting needles on the plane when she flew to Corfu. They are considered dangerous objects. Have to be in hold luggage. Also no pointed metal nail files allowed in the cabin - but orange sticks are OK.
I'm not sure about crochet hooks, as they are not actually pointed. I don't see why they would be worse than pens or biros, and they are allowed. Best to play safe and pack in main luggage, or ask when you check in and leave space in your luggage to pack them away quickly if not allowed in the cabin.

Handluggage only. I'll pack a good book instead.
