Flying with one year old twins - seats

Hi

We are flying to spain with twins in June. They will be 15 months old. I realise that they can be on our laps but i think our preferred option is to buy then seats. I am struggling to find out whether you actually need to take a car seat on board or whether they can just sit in a normal seat (presumably with some extra kind of restraint). My concern is that the car seats for this age group but difficult to carry onto a plane in addition to luggage and pram etc and of course we have both.

any thoughts much appreciated. have tried airline websites but they dont have any clear info.

thanks.

They can sit in their own seats, though they will need to be on your laps for take off and landing. I've never taken a car seat on a plane, for the reasons you describe, and never missed it; certainly I wouldn't bother just for the hop to Spain.

If you want them to sit in their own seats for take off and landing (or turbulence) they will need to have their own forward facing car seats. There are some fantastic American car seats with wheels on and a pull out handle (like a wheeled case has). However for the short flight to Spain I wouldn't bother with car seats on board. You'll need to pay for their seats but they will need to sit on your lap whenever the seatbelt signs are illuminated.

SGertie I have one of those car seats, it is called 'sit 'n stroll' and have to say it is fabulous. The wheels pull out from underneath and a handle pulls out from on top which is very very useful.
