Debating between renting an apartment here or another in Caleta de Fuste - never been to Canaries so haven't a clue. Anyone been to either?

I've been to Corralejo, The weather was nice but the town was awful. Lots of closed down bars and shops and that was two or three years ago!

Bombarded by touts trying to get you into bars/restaurants etc.

Believe CdF may be nicer.

Been to Corralejo albeit about 10 years ago. Was being "done up" at the time if I recall. Lots of surfer types/bars there, quite a young cool crowd. Had to get taxi/bus to beach from where we stayed (no hassle really) and beach is stunning, long, wide and clean. Very windy though (hence the surfers/windsurfers).

We were just in Corralejo last month for half term. It was lovely.
The main drag is pretty touristy not my cup of tea but we didn't go in at night as DC to little and hotel had entertainmnet. there are lots of new shops like ZARA and stuff.
The dunes are beautiful and the weather was fabby. Loads of water sports surfing and the like.
really liked it and would go back but not high season probably.

Ooh, raindrop, what was the temperature like? I'm desperate for some sun and warmth, but the holiday weather websites seem to say about 18 degrees - that doesn't seem swimming pool weather! Was it hot enough to sit by the pool/beach?

Go every year. Off again in a few weeks.
Yes the main town can be hit and miss - back of beyond but lovely beaches. Any Spanish holiday resort has it's fair share of touts these days.
we hire a car and drive a couple of miles out to the sand dunes or over to the lagoons to the west - so pretty and hardly a person to be seen all day.

Agree beautiful beaches/dunes! However, we were disappointed by town. No character at all!

Polgara2 · 17/03/2011 22:34

We were there last year in May last year. We had exceptionally hot weather. Main road not that bad, no different to most Spanish resorts I would guess. Nice African type market on some days. Didn't fancy the little beach in the town but the sand dunes absolutely fabulous and go on for miles!

Definitely hire a car and go a bit further afield some days. We found a lovely little village with an white church (can't remember name!). We had a really lovely week and would return. Smile

Corralejo much nicer than caleta - dunes amazing and harbour and restaurants around there lovely and a very useful playground behind.

I didnt think the main drag was that bad actually and we have never been to a resorty type place before.

The thing about the weather is that the numbers dont tell the whole story - if the sun is out then its hot enough for beach and pool - indeed the sun is really very strong and you dont feel it because of the wind.

Betancuria, polagra! I couldn't cope with the sheer cliff drops again though!

trixymalixy · 17/03/2011 23:19

Going on Saturday. Will report back!!

trixymalixy · 17/03/2011 23:22

BBC weather says early twenties weather wise for next week.

brambleschooks · 17/03/2011 23:26

Go over to the lagoons at el cotillo - sunset is awesome.

raindroprhyme · 18/03/2011 09:05

temps were in low 30's when we were there but a nice breeze so didn't feel to hot.

raindroprhyme · 18/03/2011 09:07

MY kids were in the heated pool 5 hours a day had to draqg them out to eat. I didn't go in the sea to many beasties so can't comment on sea temps. But i lay by the pool all day and got a great tan (safely obviously Grin)

I have been to both places but was years ago so prob so much has changed since then.

Corralejo was more of a pub/bar kinda place and Caleta was more family but that was before the goldf course ect.

Dunes are fab in Corralejo so check those out which ever place you decide to stay.

Have a great holiday x
