lightweight carseat for travel

I need a lightweight carseat to bring on a plane on holiday with us, DOn't want to bring my maxi coxi, because I'm afraid it'll get trashed in the plane, and it's also very heavy.

Any suggestions for a light and cheap one? Dd2 is 1 and weighs over 9kg

I am looking at this problem too and am thinking about the britax freeway because it sounds relatively lightweight and also reclines. I am not sure how easy it is to recline though when child is in postion and I am checking out dimensions with britax. Anyone have any experience of freeway on a plane?

apaprenytly with the freeway you can't recline it with the child in it

which one have you got tarantula, the solofix or the speedway?

I got the speedway and think its great. the solofix has a few fancy feature (one pull adjustment which is handy) but I didnt see the need for thoose as we are only using it once in a blue moon (that and the fact we were broke when I bought it )

webmum · 30/10/2005 10:22

thanks tarantula, it might be just what I'm looking for!!

do you want to use the seat in the plane webmum?
it needs to be able to be fixed with a lapbelt only if you do

webmum · 31/10/2005 21:02

no, just in the car

do you know how much the speedway weighs compared to argos one tatantula/orinoco?

tarantula · 18/11/2005 09:41

the speedway isnt very heavy at all. Couldnt tell you the weight tho. Ive carried it one handed with a toddler in the other arm across a busy road and then about 100 yrds down the road without much struggle. its just a bit awkward to lug around but then they all are. Its def much lighter than the britax car seat that my mum bought for when the grandkids are over.

I don't know if these are distributed in the UK but the Sit N Stroll has saved my back and sanity while travelling. It's a carseat that converts into a stroller, is foward facing in a plane, usually fits down the aisle in the jumbo jets, can be used on a dining chair as a booster, and is fairly light weight. See www.strolex.com/

I travel from HKG to the US with two toddlers a couple times each year and this is the answer!
