Which Greek Island? Leros or Naxos sound good but also considering Rhodes...

Currently trying to organise our summer break.

Love the sound of Leros and Naxos from the info I have found so far. If anyone has been to either, would they care to share please? :)

Also in the running is Rhodes. Much more commercial than the other two places but apparently beaches are great and has a lot of historical interest (DCs are mad about Greek history).

My idea of holiday hell is package tour central. I want a typical Greek village - don't mind driving to beaches. Am I going to find this on Rhodes?

TIA :)

We have just returned from Rhodes, loved it! The beaches are great, lovely sea swimming and the people are very friendly. Enjoyed visiting Lindos by boat, and Rhodes town (twice) on the local bus. Rhodes town is particularly interesting and we could happily have spent a week exploring it.

We stayed at Kolymbia, a small resort on the east coast, about halfway between Lindos and Rhodes. It's not especially interesting there, but some nice hotels and a blue flag beach.

We didn't bother with a car as the buses were fine for what we wanted to do, but I think a car would be useful if you wanted to see more of the island. Car hire for a few days seemed pretty reasonable as there were lots of companies competing with each other.

We went with Thomsons as they had a brilliant deal which suited us well, about £1400 for the two of us in a 5 star hotel for a fortnight half board, including flights and transfers. It is much cheaper in October than July/August of course, and the weather was very warm and sunny most of the time.
