Help Me Find a Family Holiday

Not sure what we want. Will be in summer hols. £2,000 max. DS 12 and 9. Have never really done 'package' but willing to consider if I have good recommendations. Don't really do the entertainment/discos, etc although boys would probably like to meet others and maybe kids clubs (?) and am worried about getting bored by the pool all day! But do need to do some relaxing and some good family time as well as maybe some exploring. Have previously rented houses in Italy and France or camped. Love both countries and also like the idea of Greece but really want some recommendations within my budget. Everything that I like the look of seems so expensive (I know I'm a bit of a snob). Help please!

Somewhere with Eurocamp? You don't actually have to be in a tent, eg you could get a week in a chalet at this place in Brittany for about £1,300 - lots for the DCs to do. Add on ferries and it should still be under £2,000, and some of the ferry companies do package deals. You might be able to do 10 days for under £2,000, but maybe not fortnight.

Thanks. Have done that kind of thing before and it was OK. Actually went to Brittany last year (rented a cottage) and had rubbish weather so would look at going further south I think.

OK. Who can recommend me a good Eurocamp site where I'm going to get decent weather and where there's interesting things to do/see nearby.

Is it just you and the 2 DCs? We are a family of 3 and I was Shock at Eurocamp prices. Think they are most cost-effective if you can borrow a couple of extra children!

It will be me, DH and 2 DCs. Yes I've been investigating and they are not particularly cheap when you compare them with hiring a cottage and factor in travel, food, etc and at the end of the day you will just be staying in a mobile home. Sorry that sounds snobbish which it's not meant to be but I'm just trying to find the best option.

Not sure I like the idea of borrowing extra children to make it cost-effective!

I'm a lone parent of two and I'm taking an extra child along this summer to stop my two bickering give the older one a friend to hang out with. Grin

But yes, it does rankle a bit that you pay the same with one adult and two children as you would for two adults and three or four children.

whostolethesocks - last summer we were down on the south coast of France, near Montpellier/Agde, and the weather was very hot and sunny (while it was cold and wet in northern France). Good mixture of things to do - historic little fortified towns, beaches, activities, theme parks etc - but not as upmarket and expensive as some other bits of the Med coastline. We were renting a house, but there were a lot of Eurocamp-type places around - worth having a look on the map on their website? Quite a long drive down from the UK, but there are cheap flights to some of the airports round there - Beziers, Montpellier etc.

Thanks Exexpat. We are happy to drive. We were obviously in northern France last year while you were in the south! Was your house nice? Need to weigh up whether to book a house or do Eurocamp type thing. Also still considering all inclusive package type thing where you know you're not going to be paying anything more but would like some recommendations. Love the idea of saying to my kids that they're on holiday and they can eat as much icecream as they want as it's all free.Grin
