Have finally persuaded my husband we need to take advantage of the four bank holidays over Easter. I wondered if anyone could recommend any good self-catering accomodation in Italy. We want somewhere with a large garden to do an Easter egg hunt in and it needs to be enclosed so we can let our kids (5 and 7) roam without worrying. I don't mind where in Italy - I just love the food there so if it's near somewhere with a good restaurant that could be an advantage.

Trullo Fico is where I stayed with friends. It's in Puglia on the heel of the boot. It's got great food, lots of Prosecco and loads for the kids to do - there is loads of land for an easter egg hunt - enough space to keep them amused for ages! Also lovely time of year - Spring over there so gorgeous scenary and temperature is at least 7-8 degrees warmer than UK! Win, win.

Blimey that's gorgeous. Thanks. It looks too beautiful for my lot though. Is there loads of priceless furniture? And I can't tell from the photos whether it's enclosed or not. Did you have kids with you when you stayed?

Last year we went to Tuscany : [www.casamontecatini.com], a great medieval house with a lovely garden in the heart of the Chiantishire. The village was stunning, and the kids loved to run in the narrow old streets. We landed with ryanair (I know, I know terrible, but sooooo cheap) at Pisa.
We did a day trip to Florence (for us) and another one to the sea (for the kids).
of course, food was .... hummmmmm, real cappuccino, delicious pasta....

Yes we had kids with us - crazy boys! The house was definitely designed with kids in mind but still to be stylish. There were minimal breakable objects and the furniture is definitely functional and robust but still beautiful!! There are stone walls around the property which is 3 acres of olive and fruit trees, so you can let the kids run off and explore, something mine can't do in London town.

I don't know other parts of Italy but we particularly loved Puglia as it feels very Italian - hardly any English voices - it's where the Italians holiday. It is also very rural and undeveloped - with sea on 3 sides and fabulous food, always very important when we go on holiday.
