My partner came home from work extremely pleased with himself as he'd found a very reasonably priced one week hol for us and a 9 yr old and 12 yr old for the last week of march.

The foreign and commonwealth website says Sharm is calm "However, the situation across Egypt is unpredictable and may change quickly. You should stay in touch with your tour operator"

Also if we did go I'd love to snorkel, my daughter and partner would probably scuba dive...I just can't help thinking about that poor German woman who got eaten by a shark.

I'm really unsure about the whole thing, would you go??

I would go.

Sharm is in Sinai which is far away from mianland Egypt. There is nothing is Sinai but hundreds of miles of desert and a few resorts. The majority of Sinai is Bedouin anyway.

It'll be fine.

just to reassure you and anybody else thinking of going to sharm, I have family living in Egypt, cairo, and although there are still lots of protests going on in various departments of the goverment by workers etc, they say that otherwise there is no sense of trouble, and they aren't violent, just people getting 30 years of frustrations out, and this is in Cairo. As for the resorts, sharm, hurghada etc, they were always quiet and are now slowly getting busier again.

I have a toddler and I would book to Sharm in a heartbeat. So enjoy the relative peace now while it lasts.
