Anteater, I know people have mentioned it on here, have a check of the archives.

weesaidie · 17/10/2005 22:45

Hey, I went for a few days at easter, stayed in one the beautiful lodges, fantastic.

One thing I would say is that if you are going to do some adult only activities then phone and book the creche before you go!

renaldo · 18/10/2005 16:33

I though it was awful when we went last yeat, the cottage was nice but the place was really attty and the food is terrible

weesaidie · 18/10/2005 20:49

atty?!

Anteater · 19/10/2005 11:33

Oh crumbs, its booked now and Mrs A hates it when I get Attty on holiday..

Um, tatty??? Ha ha, I think that may be going a bit far... have fun!

Ericblack · 19/10/2005 22:26

Sorry to say went for some horrendous The Office style team building away days. Food was crap but grounds are lovely. Quite olden days British hotel ish. If it's free, do it. Food probably OK for kids.

weesaidie · 20/10/2005 10:29

Yes food not the best but we only had one dinner there as we staying in a self catering lodge.

FangAche · 20/10/2005 10:33

I've only ever heard good things about it and one of my friends regularly goes there with her DP for a night to relax.

The grounds are stunning! Slap bang in the middle of the Perthshire countryside.

scotlou · 20/10/2005 10:43

Great for kids. Good children's pool and the adult pool is a "proper" swimming pool. There's a kids creche and play park. There's a riding school on site (run separately though).
Plenty of good walking round about - if you like hills!
The Brasserie food used to be OK.
Mind you - I've not actually stayed there! We live about 9 miles away and used to be members of the leisure club before they dramatically increased their prices.

Anteater · 20/10/2005 10:52

Will report back on return. Taking Mars Bars in case food is to attty!

Book the creche now, especially if you have kids in different age groups. Otherwise you can end up with no child free time all day IYSWIM.

Its very child friendly - you get a kind of packed lunch for teh kids in teh Winter Gardens. They serve childrens high tea from about 4.30 - 6.30. Its the kind of junk kids love. I woudl go for thsi then have dinner at night yourselves. Food isnt wonderful for 3 star hotel but it tastes better without children and when you havent cooked it yourself

They have a kids pool. cinema, ceilidhs at night, other family entertainment ect

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 10:55

well you shoudl never go anywhere without chocolate. Tho they DO have shops in Crieff

Anteater · 20/10/2005 10:58

Have booked the kids clubs already! Three different age groups! Family is VERY excited..

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 11:12

Oh well done! Did you get them all in at the same time?

Now book dinner for yourselves. Tables during kids club time are in high demand.

tamum · 20/10/2005 11:29

I haven't been for a few years but the food was pretty awful I have to say. We enjoyed ourselves in spite of it though- it's a great location though, and the chalets are lovely. I seem to remember a rather fabulous sweetie shop in Crieff, so you should be fine there

Wallace · 20/10/2005 12:04

Haven't been since 1990! I was only 12 , but we had a wonderful time. I wonder if our frisbee is still stuck in the tree

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 12:06

Oh is that your frisbee?

Anteater · 20/10/2005 12:42

Yep, all booked at the same time, not sure if I should book a table for us or just legit down to the sweet shop! Which restaurant is least grim?

OP posts:
mears · 20/10/2005 12:59

I was there for a silver wedding almost 2 years ago. The food was lovely. Cooked breakfast in the morning was fab. Scenery lovely - it was like a picture postcard driving home with the snow all around.

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 14:45

Oh grim is too strong! Just not what you might expect from a very posh hotel. Brasserie is very informal, you get an allowance towards the cost of your meal if you are on half board. Main dining room ( cant remember name ) is more formal with a dress code ( jacket and tie I think, and no jeans or trainers) . You get the full meal included here.If you are there 2 nights, why not try both?

We just found it a bit of a rush to get served & eat within the 1 1/2 hours creche is open.

Wallace · 20/10/2005 16:43

Yes MY frisbee and I want it back [stomps foot]

Anteater · 27/10/2005 12:38

The definitive Crieff hydro report..

It rained a LOT
The hotel is huge.
The children?s food is not Jamie Oliver.
The adult?s food is average.
The kid?s pool is good.
The Kids clubs (we had children in 3) were well enjoyed.
Could not see the countryside due to zero visibility.
Our room was large, functional and ?tatty?.

Families will enjoy the hotel (which had the feel of an old ocean liner inside, especially with the rain beating against the windows), but for the prices they charge we expected better accommodation and more luxurious adult areas.
