Was planning on taking DS(5) there this week (Tesco vouchers) but have never been before.

Any tips? Must dos? Or things to avoid?

TIA

Legoland doesn't open until April!

Only tips are to take food with you :)

cakeforbrains · 22/02/2011 20:39

Is it open? I thought it was closed for the winter and re-opens in April.

cakeforbrains · 22/02/2011 20:39

x-posts!

PorkChopSter · 22/02/2011 20:39

check when it's open, is my first tip Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 22/02/2011 20:40

Start furthest away from the entrance and work back.

If it's a nice day take bathers for the dc.

Take food with you

(There's lockers for all the stuff that you don't need with you all day)

mollymawk · 22/02/2011 20:42

Agree with the above, especially bring swimming kit for children - there is a kind of water park place.

Get there early (although not February Wink) so you can be right there when it opens.

Grockle · 22/02/2011 20:45

Argh, bugger! Grin

Am SO glad I posted. I even checked their website [bush]

So, when we DO go, in APRIL, is there anything else I should know?

best tip is go at 7 at night when its closed .

Grockle · 22/02/2011 20:56

So perhaps February is not a bad idea then?

Gah. I'm so annoyed now! WTF aren't they open at half-term? I'm still bitter that they got rid of the Safari Park. I don't even WANT to go to Legoland but I have these bloody Tesco vouchers to use before the end of May.

Boating school is very popular, so get their very early on, or don't do it.

The new ride (Atlantis) isn't open until Summer I think. What was DinoDipper is being themed and put over near the Castle I think.

What rides you do will depend on what things your DS likes.

Plan for regular Brew stops for your own sanity, though the quality varies by outlet. Won't know till the park is open which ones are best, usually Harborside Coffee serves best coffee.

2cats2many · 22/02/2011 20:59

Its a brilliant day out and I bet your 5 year old will love it.

Agree about taking food. The food there is crap and expensive.

readinginsteadnow · 22/02/2011 20:59

Start at the back.

Dont bother waiting to get the little train down into the valley, it takes 100 times longer than walking.
Take butties and eat them while you're queuing or watching the puppet show.

Pray for a cold day as it'l lbe less busy.

At the end of the day, be in a place where lots of ride entrancs are close together so you can leg it from one to the other and take advantage of no queues!

nannynick · 22/02/2011 21:00

Chessington is open this half-term I think, though not sure if that is Zoo only this time of year.

For Legoland the tesco vouchers have to be converted into a DealsVoucher. So allow time for sending the vouchers in and getting the DealsVoucher back. The DealsVoucher is valid for 6 months from issue date.

Grockle · 22/02/2011 21:04

Yes, I already have the tokens which is why I wanted to go (and before it gets busy with nicer weather). Might have to go to Portsmouth dockyard instead (to use up other vouchers!)

Thanks for all the help.

Dont assume the cute ride in the big castle stays cute Hmm

Get a coffee while its bogof at certain times!

The show in the lake thing is good and gives you a sit down if you get at the front!

For driving school, they really do ask the kids their age, so your 5 yr old will have to go on the small one (3-5) and its pathetic for that age!

Go to duploland last, as its got a wet area.

Take a binbag to wear in case it rains. The driers are £2 a go!

Dont expect to find many pocket money priced things in the gift shop.

preghead · 22/02/2011 21:07

Her hee my friend asked me if I wanted to go this week too. My tips are don't go weekends or school holidays if you value your sanity. If you have to go weekends make it an overcast day as some people will be put off going. Hire one of the double buggies if your kids will go in one as useful to load stuff in and take plenty of snacks and drinks, esp on a hot day as it gets very, very hot with not much shade. If you are planning to go to the shop to buy any Lego go at the beginning of the day as you go past at the entrance and leave it at the pickup point for the way out as the shop gets so busy at the end of the day you can't see what's on the shelves.

Best day we ever had there (go a lot have passes) was last summer during the world cup, we went on the day of the last England match and it was so pleasant, virtually no queuing

clux73 · 15/03/2011 21:33

I just coach my kids to lie about their age for the driving school. My 2 year old knows to say she's 3, and my 5 year old knows to say she's 6! They can both handle the cars fine.
