staying at alton towers

HI. I'm thinking of staying overnight at alton towers in august this year. DCs will be 5 and 16 months. Was thinking of staying at the splash landings hotel as I understand that's closer to the monorail for the park, doing the waterpark one day and the theme park the next.

is there enough to do at the theme park for a 5 year old?

are the hotels worht the price. Also, if you've managed to get a good deal on this in past, where did you find it?

thanks in advance

I stayed at the splash landings hotel 6yrs ago. My son was just over 3. We had a brilliant time and stayed in the peter rabbit room. He loved all the tree trunks coming out of the room. Splash landings itself is quite good itself and the water slides are brill. As for there being enough to do at alton towers itself there should be as lots of shows to see. Tweenies were on when we went. Also check the ride heights before you go to double check the bigger rides that DC can go on. Hope this helps and have a brilliant time.

We stayed at Splashlandings last year when DCs were 6 and 4. We had a bog standard family room which was comfortable & plenty big enough. Worth knowing that there is a family kitchen on one of the floors with a fridge, a microwave and a washing machine & dryer, for all guests. (One night we took out own food, heated it up in the microwave and ate it on our laps in our room - perfect after a long tiring day). Kids loved it all.

The hotel is great because of it's proximity to the water park & the theme park. Sign up to their website to get special offers & deals but they seem to be pretty thin on the ground.

Tomorrow, we're trying out a YHA at Ilam Hall, 9 miles from Alton Towers, as a cheaper alternative. We've got a family room, en-suite; two nights for the price of one at Splashlandings. We booked it using our Tesco clubcard vouchers. Check it out here. I'll let you know what it's like when I get back but it's had good reviews from other MNers.

As another poster has already said, there's tons to do at Alton Towers for 5 year olds. You won't be able to tear them away!

Enjoy Grin

We have just come back. Stayed at Splash Landings, did one day in the water park, one in the theme park. Had a great time, although we got soaked and freezing in the theme park. Hotel wasn't too expensive, I've been told Tesco club card points are good for paying. Hotel was good, not noisy and we slept well.
Loads to do in the park, the aquarium is really good and a real surprise - would have been a day out in itself. Water park was great too, v busy but not unpleasant, kids would have been happy to do 2 days at the water park. Food at the hotels is supposed to be poor. We ate at the water park midday and it was ok, went out to the pub in the evening.

This was an utterly fab hotel for kids and was close to Alton Towers and also Chatsworth and Dovedale.
