I may have made a bit of a mistake.... I get emails from travelzoo with special offers and I booked hilton hyde park for £119 per night including dinner (one night) and breakfast. (though with taxes it has come out as more.... for marathon weekend in April. I cancelled holiday inn who I had booked the marathon package with, but thought they were a bit dear. Now I am unsure whether I have done the right thing cos DH has to get to start line independently now (holiday inn were offering coach) and the trip looks complicated.

so I have two questions:1 any idea what the Hilton hotel is like and 2: best way to get to Greenwich Park using public transport.

Hi Ilovedplaydays. Can't help you with the hotel, but I can with travel. It's not a bad journey. His nearest tube stations are Queensway or Notting Hill Gate.

From Queensway, he should get the Central Line to Bond Street, shift onto the Jubilee Line and go to London Bridge where he can get on a train to Blackheath (or Greenwich and walk through the park to the starting line). Prob about 45 mins.

From Notting Hill Gate, he can get on the District or Circle Line to Embankment. Walk to Charing Cross (less then five mins - turn right out of the tube station and walk to the top of Villiers St and you're at Charing Cross). Train to Blackheath or Greenwich from there. Also less than an hour.

I'd probably go with the first option.

Hope that helps.

Hilton Hyde Park should be okay for an overnight stay. It could turn out to be a trek to get from there to Greenwich.

What I would suggest you do as well is look at TFL's (Transport for London) website nearer the time to see what works are being planned for that weekend.
