Spain for 4 weeks with 6 1/2 month old - advice on what to take and BF attitudes in Spain?

We're going to Spain for 4 weeks from mid April when our DS will be 6 1/2 months. We'll have just have started weaning and I'm not sure yet whether to continue BF post holiday for ease? There is a high chair and travel cot in the place we are staying and we are planning on buying a stroller. We are flying so have limited space.

Any advice would be greatly received on what essentials to take and how to manage weaning over there. Also, if you can get all the same things out there (formula, decent jarred baby food etc). Also, is it worth taking a mini medical kit and with what in it?

Thanks x

I'd go with the boobies-so much easier. Don't know about Spain but in Italy it's boobies any time you like! Most places are more boobie friendly than the UK! Jars of food are available in Italy, France and Germany so probably Spain too, or you could just take a mouli/hand blender with you. Watch out for interesting flavours-in Italy we found trout puree and also horse!

nappies are really expensive so are wet wipes they dont seem to sell nappy sacks either.they sell Hero brand of baby food, it was about e1.70 tho last year. i usually just take calpol/neurophen and a thermometre, the chemists are really good there for other minor ailments.bf will probably be easier than the wholehassle with ff.

BF is the norm in Spain. Formula milk is expensive. Tonnes of jarred baby food. There is a much more relaxed attitude to children eating out - everyone goes out as a family. So you should have no problem with fresh food for a weaner.
I can find out the equivalent of your preferred brands/ prices if you like?

My Mum lives in Spain and things like branded nappies are relatively expensive (papmers are called Dodot by the way) I have always been perfectly happy with suppermarket own brands (I used Carre Four all the time in Spain). Huggies are also available in spain and all supermarkets sell baby wipes.

As for weaning food. There is lots of choice. The bigger stores sell Hipp food and food by Nestle are lots of Hero.

I would continue to BF but if you decide to use Forumla, just be aware that again they have different names. Aptimil is Milupa, COw & Gate is Almiron and SMA is not available in Spain.

I live in Barcelona, and Spain is really easy with children. No problem at all for BF, but yes nappies are very expensive. Best brand is dodot, I confirm. If you are going to use formula, better bring your own

I would continue with the BF. I know in Turkey, where I lived when DD1 was a baby I would BF anywhere and I never had any problems, it was considered perfectly normal. I would imagine Spain wouold be the same.

one thing to add.. although babies are welcome everywhere very few restaurants seem to have high chairs, so if poss get baby used to eating out of stroller, although expect to have to hose stroller down afterwards! restaurants dont mind at all if you need to lugg your stroller thru and sweet waiters will get everyone to move out of your way.
all other stuff available no problem, but buy from supermarket not pharmacy (which is way more expensive for no reason at all) just take favourite blanky/spoon/bottle/beaker for the journey.

I've just had a lovely holiday in Lanzarote and the locals are amazing with children. I still feed DS who is 17 months and no one batted an eyelid. I was taken aback at how expensive nappies were (though are probably more there as it's an island). You can buy ready made formula.

Eating out was great, restaurants are so accomodating and the waiting staff all adored my very very messy bed eating habit-ed DS! I took a Totseat with me just in case but didn't need it at all. Again that may be because it was a resort, each restaurant had loads and loads of highchairs.

I'm really looking forward to going back to Spain with my children, such a lovely refreshing attitude.
