Shopping trip to London.. best area to stay?

Can anyone help me please? DH is taking clients to Twickenham a week on Saturday. I plan to come down to London with him and spend the day browsing the shops.

But, I am a London shopping scene virgin who rarely ventures south of Nottingham!

Whereabouts in London should I book the hotel if I am to be in walking distance of the best shopping areas?

Which are the best shopping areas anyway? I'm not interested in overpriced tourist traps like Harrods particularly.

Thank you in anticipation.

Sorry Blu, so you did.

I think there is also a Park Plaza, might come in on budget if you can get a deal.

sorry Blu.... I'm a lazy reader bit busy and didn't notice :)

do you want london or do you want good shopping in a nice but not very touristy environment, quite close to Twickenham? because if the latter you could go to Kingston. It is fab for shopping - and it's a nice environment - a lovely market square, some nice corners with coffee shops and restaurants along the river.

If you want London - and if you're not paying - then I would want to stay at 1, Aldwych. Dh can walk across Waterloo Bridge, to Waterloo to get the train to Twickenham - and you can walk to Bloomsbury, Soho and Covent Garden. If you;ve got the inclination you could walk on further to Oxford St but personally I avoid it like the plague. You could also walk or get a bus in the opposite (ie east) up to Clerkenwell and Islington, but I have to say, Islington's never really done it for me. full of too many people trying to be too cool

actually, if you want something a bit upmarket you could go to Richmond - v. near Twickenham and, if it's your thing, you can wonder up the hill and look in the all the art galleries. and wonder how much the houses costs.

hatwoman, you just have to have the zoopla app on your phone :o

hatwoman · 17/02/2011 15:04

ahem. you could also wander up the hill.

I think I'll avoid Islington hatwoman if the people are 'cool'. I'm far too Northern and uncool Grin
