We are going on our first abroad holiday with 5yr old and 3yr old at Easter - over excited!Grin
Looking for some expert advice.
Are you able to hire bed guards? We are staying at the Cheyene and my DS would need one for bottom bunk.
Also, my DD is most excited about the princesses, but I get the impression from previous threads that they are not seen about much. Is this the case, and should we book dinner at the Auberge to make sure we meet them?
Thanks!

Hi Avaj,

In regards to the Cheyenne,
The Bunkbeds:
The top bunk has boards but not suitable for under 6's
and the bottom doesn't although it is low to the ground and has solid ladders blocking about 1/4 of the side. It is possible to get bed boards for the double bed but I'm afraid I don't think they exist for the bottom bunk. The best tip is to ask the hotel the moment you get there to give you an extra blanket, this can be rolled up and form a very good block. (they will be happy to do so)

Good news about the princess is that from the 6th they are going to be around the park a lot more visible and also in the afternoons too (they have been only from 9am-1pm for years) if you follow me on twitter or visit my facebook page after the 6th April I'll be able to give you loads more details.

With the meal, if you can afford in comfortably, i'd highly recommend it.
;-)

Georgieminx - sorry I was replying at the same time...
How old is your Ds?
:-)

geordieminx · 29/03/2011 20:55

He'll be 4 next month, if we go will probably wait until September, once the schools are back and will go mid week to try and avoid queues Grin

thebritishfrog · 29/03/2011 21:12

Great! He is a fantastic age!
There is so much here that he'll love (and you will too!)

Toystory - there is the slinky dog, maybe the parachute (could be a little scary), but most of all he'll get to meet Buzz and woody!

Cars - There is a spinning cars ride which is perfect for him and starting soon lightning will be starring in the Light motor action stunt show!

Finding nemo - I'm afraid very little. There is Crush's coaster although as the name says it's a roller- 'coaster'. I've known four year olds that have adored it and others that is was just a wee bit too much for them.

I'm sure it will probably really like 'Playhouse Disney Live' too!

geordieminx · 29/03/2011 21:44

Thanks sooo much you are a mine field of info.

Roll on September!

thebritishfrog · 29/03/2011 21:48

You're more than welcome! Feel free to FB me if you have anymore questions... I wish you the best of luck with it all! :)

Yes, disney characters refers to Princess (and villians, Garcon was borderline hunky in a very tacky manner and Cruella de ville scary) we didn't catch them all, but we saw photographed and autographed a fair number. Mickey and friends refers to mickey, minnie, donald, daisy etc.

Hi.
The trip advisor Marne La Vallee forum does not only give details of private transfers, there is information of all the different methods from the different French airports in the TQ box, and posters will also answer any individual questions.
The options are by fast TGV train ( 10 to 12 mins, then taking the free shuttle bus or walking to your hotel ). the train leaves from Terminal 2D, so you may have to take the CDGVAL monorail from your arrival Terminal. The CDGVAL monorail runs on a loop serving all the Terminals and 2 main car parks. Prices are cheaper if booked online in advance. You can buy tickets at the station as long as the train is not fully booked, which can happen at peak times.

VEA bus from Terminal 2 E/F at CDG to Disneyland, but this only stops at the 6 Disney hotels apart from three times a day when it also stops at the 5 non Disney hotels, so this depends on where you are staying. Guests staying at the preferred hotels would have to get off at the bus stops by Chessy ( Disney ) railway station, then catch the free shuttle bus to their hotel.
The VEA bus costs ? 18 adult and ? 15 child aged 3 to 11, so you would be paying ? 66 one way for 2 adults and 2 children over 2 yrs. Kids under 3 go free. Frequency of buses and times vary during the year, and days of the week, so check on the website. Also check the times of the first and last buses to see if this is a suitable option for you.

www.vea.fr

You can save money by catching the RER line B to Chatelet Les Halles, then the RER line A4 to Marne La Vallee Chessy ( the station inside Disney resort ) but this takes a long time. Not something I would fancy doing with kids and luggage after an early start, travelling and flight, when they can be getting tired and maybe crabby.

The reason that so many families choose to book a recommended private transfer is because the driver will be waiting for you at arrivals, with the vehicle parked right outside, so you will be straight on your way to your hotel door. Some of them have DVDs for kids playing a Disney movie, and all of them have correct child seats if you give kids ages when booking. The journey takes 30 - 45 mins usually depending on traffic.
Private transfers cost from ? 60 each way per vehicle, so can be cheaper for a family than paying for individual train or bus tickets, and hassle free.

Regarding breakfast at Cafe Mickey - don't book early breakfast time if you are staying in one of the preferred resort hotels as you cannot get there until the hotel shuttle buses begin running, which is after 8am. They begin running earlier for the Disney hotels for guests going to the park for EMH, so they can either bus or walk to Cafe Mickey.

If you are standing behind the stage in the Studios park, Place Des Stars, when the Stars N Cars parade arrives there, Characters do indeed come over to the ropes to meet people there for photos, autographs etc while the show is in progress. However, bear in mind that you cannot see what is going on in front of the stage, which is where Characters including Princesses dance and sing, so kids could be disappointed if they have not already seen the show.
I would always recommend getting here early to get a good view of the stage behind the rope, as the Characters come over after the show.

Meet and Greet Locations for Characters will be on the park programme which you can pick up as you enter both parks along with park maps, or see online a week in advance on the Disney website. These can change during the seasons of the year, so check this for Characters that you would like to meet. Princesses are usually in the Disneyland Park apart from during Stars N Cars Parade and following show in the Studios.

There's not much that we don't know about DLP on the TA MLV forum. Many of us have been going regularly since it opened in 1992.
Always glad to help there.

Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop ride has a height requirement of 81cm if riding with an adult and 1m 19 to ride alone.
RC Racer has a higher height requirement - 1.20m
Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin is fine for very young children, no minimum height.

Pizza Planet restaurant in Discoveryland is an all you can eat buffet ( pasta, pizza ) including drinks for about ? 18 adult and ? 9 child. There is a small indoor play area for kids. Originally Woody and Buzz were usually in here, but not any more. However, some people find this restaurant rather disappointing and claustrophobic, as no windows and black walls. It does not really resemble the Pizza Planet restaurant in the Toy Story movies, so don't expect it to be like that. You can read reviews on various websites to see exactly what people have thought. It is cheaper than the other buffet restaurants in the parks, with less choices. Some parents have said that they hated it, but their kids loved it, so it is personal choice really. You cannot book in advance here - just pay at the door.
Look for reviews on www.tripadvisor.com, www.dlrpmagic.com, www.dlpfoodguide.com

A kids Buzz Lightyear outfit in the shops in Disney costs around ? 60! There is plenty of other Toy Story merchandise in the stands and shops in the parks and Village, especially the shop at the exit of Buzz Laser Blaster ride in Discoveryland.
Toy Story beach towel ? 19.95
Buzz spinning light ? 17.95
Buzz laser gun ? 13.90
Toy Story autograph book ? 7.90
Buzz Laser Blaster photo frame with ride photo ? 19
smaller photos are ? 15 each or two for ? 20.

Woody is often at his roundup Village in Frontierland, and also in Cowboy Cookout Character meals also in Frontierland. Character Tea is held here, and Character lunch is due to move here from Lucky Nugget Saloon which is closing for a kitchens refurb. These can be booked in advance.

Crush's Coaster in the Studios has a minimum height of 1.07m. It has Nemo theming, and the first part of the ride is quite gentle underwater theming, but then it climbs and continues with a spinning, swooping, coaster section in the dark. Some kids love it, some would be terrified. It is a case of knowing your child, or mum or dad trying it first if uncertain. There is no fastpass facility for this ride, and very popular, so has long queues all day. Do this ride first, as soon as the park gates open.

were going on sunday!so excited.im scared ive not packed everything but hey ho!weve been before to santa fe but were in explorers this time.
how much spending money do you think for family of 5?im panicking we'll get there and wont have enough.

Figgygirl · 30/03/2011 18:51

Very difficult to tell people how much money to take. Have you booked half board or are you paying for meals when you are there?
If you look at the TA MarneLa Vallee forum page, you will see a list of Top Questions on the right hand side. Find the one about ' How much do things cost' and click on it. Then click on the ' Prices' link that comes up.
This thread contains ongoing prices of fast food, snacks, drinks, restaurants, various merchandise items, ice creams, lollies etc. so should help you to work out how much you are likely to spend.

www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g226865-i2224-k3501664-Prices-Marne_la_Vallee_Seine_et_Marne_Ile_de_France.html

If you have HB then you only have lunch, snacks and souvenirs to think about, which is a personal thing. Some people spend more than others.
If you are having to buy evening meals as well, look at this website for restaurant menus and prices. It is a very useful website in general. Dining does tend to cost more without Half Board.

www.dlrpmagic.com

www.dlrpmagic.com/planning/dining/restaurant-menus/

With breakfast, a few snacks at lunchtime, then dinner using HB vouchers, we don't spend much money when we are there really nowadays. However, when my sons were younger and used to want soft toys, hats, T shirts, Trading Pins etc, we did spend more.
A good idea is to allocate each child their own souvenir money in a purse or envelope, so they can see how much they have. It does make them more choosy and not so demanding.
Another way is to make a ' spending card ' for each child, with their name on, with the amount they can spend ( like a Giftcard ) and keep a running total on each one so they can see how much they have left.
Kids could make their own Giftcards to take, and personalise them.

Figgygirl · 30/03/2011 19:02

By the way, I stayed in the Explorers with my sister and our 5 boys just after it first opened ( and they were still building! ) Got a very good deal flying with British Midland at the time.
The boys all liked the hotel, even though mine were used to staying in the Newport Bay and Sequoia Lodge hotels.
The only thing I really missed was not being close enough to walk to the parks and back, and having to wait for buses instead. The boys missed not seeing Characters in the hotel. Nice pirate/ adventure type theming though.
I also like to send purchases back to our hotel during the day, but you can collect them from the front of the park or from the Disney Store in the Village - you don't have to carry goods around with you.

Figgygirl · 30/03/2011 19:08

If you are eating in the Village after parks have closed, make sure you check with your hotel what time the last bus goes from the stops by the railway station. It should be around 11pm, when restaurants and shops close, but best to check this so you are not stuck and have to pay for a taxi.

Granard · 04/04/2011 22:56

theshivers, a private transfer will cost around 60 to 70 euro each way.

I would price the various options - VEA shuttle and TGV and private transfer.

I've done the VEA shuttle once. Never again. We were still in the airport 1 and a half hours after landing having taken a bus from the terminal we landed at to the terminal from which the VEA departed and then queued up with a huge crowd of people all trying to get on one bus but without any queue system.

Whereas with a private transfer, we were checking in within 1 hour 15 minutes of landing. Completely stress free and absolutely worth the extra money.

Figgygirl · 06/04/2011 21:56

I do agree with Granard, especially if you are travelling with young children, buggies, luggage etc. If you have been up since early morning, travelled to airport, had a one hour or longer flight, then walked through the LONG corridoors at CDG for passport control and luggage collection, it is great to see your driver waiting for you at arrivals to drive you straight to your hotel.
The VEA bus or TGV train is fine for adults travelling without kids, or with one older child, but the bus will definitely take longer. It can be confusing trying to find the TGV train to MLV Chessy in Terminal 2, and may involve having to take the CDGVAL shuttle from your arrival Terminal. Then you have to get to your hotel from the station in Disneyland.
For families with 2 or more kids aged 3 yrs and over, a private transfer can be a similar price or cheaper than the TGV or VEA, and much easier.
