Anyone used BA's 'infant seat' for longhaul?

I am travelling to Australia in April with my 4 year old and 20 month old - on my own. I have flown with them before but they were different ages so am trying not to get myself too anxious about this flight!

My boy will be too big for the cot so am wondering if the infant seat that BA offers is just like a car seat ie it reclines etc and he will be able to sleep in it.

Has anyone used it and would recommend it? My only other alternative is to travel at 'quieter' times and hope that we get 3 seats together but I think I would prefer him strapped in.

thanks
C

I have used Virgin's infant care chair. If its the same (?) it was great, just like a car seat. It did recline but not flat.

Please strap him in, its so much safer and you will need your hands free to eat!

Yes. We used it 18 months ago when DS was 9 months old. How big is your 20 month old?

DS was comfy in his and slept for about 9 or the 12 hours back into London from Singapore.

From memory, they are not that big though.

We used it twice with DD, the last time when she was approx 21 months (although she was quite small for her age) It was very good as she was able to see around the cabin (and make eyes at people) and it was easy to recline for a nap

We have used with 12mth DD and yes she slept in it. She is however big for her age and I think would not be able to use the seat until she was 2yrs old as they suggest, so you may need to bear that in mind depending how big your son is.

I really found the seat helpful for DD, but had to take her out of it every time we hit turbulence as they are not allowed to stay in these seats when the seatbelt signs are on. We had a very "trigger happy" pilot on the way out who had the sign on and off for the mildest of turbulence which got a little tiring! Much better return journey thankfully and some fab service from the crew when DD threw up all over herself too. Thankfully they had a spare seat and were able to change it over for us!

Have you already prebooked your seat to ensure you get a bulkhead seat? If not contact BA directly to do this or you could end up disappointed.

I used it for my DS when he was four months old. They're basically like a small 'bouncy' seat. He was fine in it but wouldn't fit now. The last longhaul flight we did (20 months) he had his own seat that had his carseat attached to it. I think it's the safest way but know money doesn't always allow it. The turbulence thing is a PITA for the child seat too... especially when they're asleep.

it fixes where the cot does, it is not like a car seat that fits in its own seat. So you end up with quite a big child up on the platform and they make you take them out if the seatbelt light goes on (as others have said). Definitely worth requesting but it does have its limitations.

We used it at 7 mths and it is more like a bouncy chair in style but fixed
Don't think it reclined
Not sure what the weight limit was

If money allows I'd buy an extra seat
