Is ClubMed Chavtastic?

Never had kids overseas - they're 4 and 6 now (we used to live in N America so came home for family visits).

We used to go out of season to Centre Parcs, which the boys love. Trails, big pool complex, adventure playground - it's all they're interested in!

Went to CP last August and it was vile vile vile.

Restricted to school hols now (August).

A villa in Pollensa (Majorca) sounds nice, but will the boys be bored?

Dare I brave a Club Med holiday - again, will the kids be bored with 1 normal pool?

We were terrified of the chavland possibilities that clubmed seem to suggest, so we went to Oceania club in halkidiki Greece and it was FAB. great children's club, watersports, loads of child-friendly pools. Went in high season and didn't feel overcrowded. Very good food. We are v. snobby and loved it.

I thought ClubMed was French and very outdoors/healthy lifestyles orientated? (hence me always avoiding it! Wink)

I think most places in August are fairly vile. We've never been to Club Med, so can't help with that but we have rented a villa in Pollensa in August. Our DDs were 15 and 12 at the time. They weren't bored I don't think. Happy to spend a lot of time in the pool. Invest in some inflatables - money well spent.
We ate out in Puerto Pollensa sometimes. Very busy in august and could well be described as chavvy, depends how snobby you are really Wink.
We've also rented villas in Andalucia. Nicer in my opinion and less expensive. I'd recommend Frigliana.

We have also been to Center Parcs in France in August and enjoyed it - apart from the swimming pool which was hell. I'd go again, but only because our DDs are now old enough to be packed off to the pool without us.

We did club med 2 years ago near Cannes. It was great and not at all chav. Glad I can speak French though!

Very outdoorsy.

Would go again.

It's not at all chavtastic, no. As someone said, very healthy and outdoorsy.

There will be tonnes to do and the food is the best mass catering I've every eaten.

I've been to a few of them over the years and never been disappointed. They do get busy in high season and have a bit of a sort of "French Butlins" feel (the evening shows can be very funny), but chavvy? Non.

ClubMed not in the least chavvy. We've been to 1 in France, 1 in Morocco, and found v few English in either, bar a smattering of mixed nationality/bilingual families. Met lovely Dutch people, and some well-off English lawyer types.

StillSquiffy · 31/01/2011 16:51

Oh, yes, Captain, I can spot white carnations, plastic garden chairs and paper napkins at 50 yards Wink (not saying you find these at Clubmed, mind. Have no idea)

Highlander · 31/01/2011 19:49

Hmm, clubmed looks a bit adult; looks like it's designed to leave your kids in childcare.

Well there is a kids club, although unless you go somewhere will a large english-speaking contingent (that caribbean maybe) I'd say it will be dominated by french speakers and quite hard work for English speaking children. My DD went to one but didn't really like it. She had far more fun at the pool with us. Actually, it was great for families: big tables at meals, good baby equipment, rooms designed to take 3 or 4 people, a fab beach, cycle paths and lots of children all over the place.
