Recommend a hotel in venice please!

DH and I would like to spend two nights in Venice at the beginning of July for our wedding anniversary.

As it'll be a bit of a one off we'd like to stay somewhere really special. Ideally 4 or 5, one of those beautiful old hotels, and we'd like to splash out for a good view (canal or lagoon).

We'll probably be taking DS with us (he'll be 9 months), but from what I've seen all the hotels are happy to have children there.

There are just so many on expedia, so I'd love to hear some personal recommendations.

Thanks very much!

:)

The Molino Stucky is lovely!
It is a Hilton and ticked all the boxes for us and the roof garden terrace is fab when they have a venetian buffet on.
You have to get a water taxi to the main land because it is on the other island but for us that was all part of the fun.

Thanks, I'll have a look at it. :)

We had a few nights in Venice a couple of years ago. I can recommend the hotel we stayed in, fabulous location, right on a canal so you can take a boat to the hotel from the airport (we did this and it was a fab way to arrive, felt like royalty!) and you can see the bridge of sighs from the window.

About two years ago, we stayed here. Lovely lovely hotel. It's away from the touristy areas (it's on an island a bit further out from the main ones), but you can walk to Piazza San Marco in about 20 minutes, or else get the vaporetto.

Don't know about how they feel about children, but I don't think it would be a problem

Thanks, that one also looks lovely. Although the room available is a "standard annex room", do you know if that's a good one?

Thanks!

Sorry that ^ was to SwearyMary

That one's lovely too Abs, but maybe a wee bit more modern than I was imagining. Look very luxurious though.

If you like a bit of atmosphere, the Gabrielli Sandwirth is fab - they filmed Don't Look Now there, the decor of the communal areas is firmly stuck in the 70s, gorgeous breakfast served by men in white tuxes etc. All a bit faded-luxury.
It's right on the entrance to the Grand Canal - we had a top floor room with two windows, one looking across to San Giorgio, the other straight up to St Mark's Square.
I would go back tomorrow, that's for sure :) but it's more quirky than top notch luxury. It has a glorious roof terrace too.
here

I have no idea Flingon, sorry. We stayed in a standard double room, it was small but really lovely. You could give them a ring and ask them, they were very helpful. IMO the location of the Columbina is amazing, so central yet its tucked away enough to be quiet.
Lets us know where you choose to stay! Smile

The Hotel Danieli is lovely. One day, in a far of distant future, in a parallel universe me and DW also intend to stay there. Sad

FlingonTheValiant · 28/01/2011 10:41

I looked at the Hotel Danieli yesterday, it looks absolutely wonderful.

The Gabrielli Sandwirth also looks lovely.

Better see if I can find a deal.

I think I might push it back to October and see if I can get better rate by booking early.

Thanks so much for all these recommendations! :)

My in-laws stayed here for MIL's 60th. They loved it. DH and I are going in May though and prefer a little less ornate in style so are staying here. Hope it's nice!
