Are we bonkers...?

Hi, I am a new member, and after some advice please! We have a little girl who will be 3 next summer, and we are planning a holiday to Italy (she has never been abroad)early July. The plan = fly to Rome for 4 days, then train to Naples, and transfer (somehow) to Amalfi for a week (possibly Positano).

Question: Are we bonkers to even consider doing this with a toddler?!

I look forward to any tips!

Thanks x

it would be too hot for you to really enjoy Rome and even Naples, not so much that she is 3 years old, but all of you will be exausted in the heat there (guess why all Italians escape city for the summer :) )

We went driving long distances with 3 and 5 yo dc's - across Europe well over 1000 miles each way
but it was North Europe

I haven't been to Rome but have done the Amalfi coast and Naples. I would say that Naples is great for shopping but not for toddlers as it is quite noisy, quite dirty and lots of traffic and not many people speak English. However if you are just using it as a transfer point then should be fine! We got the train from Naples to Pompeii which was fine but crowded and hot and not sure i would want to go much further than this with a toddler. We got from Amalfi coast to Naples by taxi organised by hotel. Positano is basically a town of steps so not the best for a toddler! It's small and not much for kids to do unless she's the quiet type who's happy to just sit in cafes and wander around. To be perfectly honest i would recommend you leave "grown up" hols like this until your dd is a bit older and take her somewhere with a decent beach and a playground (doesn't have to be naff).
