Its going to depend on your toddler really, how well do they travel normally, will they sleep in this situation, times of flights etc etc,

is the Dominican Republique??, or Dominica?? I would say no to Dominica, & probably the same to D/R based on being advised against it by friends a few years back with a slightly older DD, but haven't actually been there myself yet

Personally even with a DD who traveled pretty well at that stage, we preferred to avoid the stressful start to a holiday & gave ourselves a 3/4 (ish) hour flight cap & generally tried to keep it as short as possible

rockinhippy- i know wot u mean i do think it best to stick to a short flight, im just struggling to find somewhere warm-hot in feb, wont really be able to travel afta that as will be to late in pregnancy :(

Have you thought of Malta, or even Egypt, we did both of those when DD was younger, manageable flights & hot at that time of year...both are Child friendly & Malta was very cheap too, Meilhiah bay area was beautiful

i am half maltese, so have lived in malta and im always goin on hols there to see family, so its not like a hol now if u know wot i mean, def considering egypt aswell tho, was thinking of malta agen and staying in the raddison in meliha but think DP is sick of the site of malta unfortunately

Madeira?

Canaries?

We went to Dominican Republic for my DD's 1st birthday. We went with first choice and paid a bit extra for their premium seats for the flights.

The hotel was fantastic with her. We had a kitchenette in the room so that we could boil water, heat meals etc.

The hotel restaurants also catered 'off-menu' for my DD. They even made a lovely birthday cake and had a lovely little party for her on her birthday.

The beach was lovely, the water clean and clear and the people really helpful and friendly.

If you are considering the Dominican Republic I would defo recommend with a little one.

The 8 hour flight is not that big of a deal. My DD just walked up and down the aisles practising her talking.

jbells · 24/01/2011 14:08

branching out will the canaries be hot? i thought it was only around 16C at this time of year

I can see your DPs point then, but loved it ourselves:)

the Sunrise Resort Hotel in Hurgada, Egypt
www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g297549-d302796-Reviews-SUNRISE_Holidays_Resort-Hurghada_Red_Sea_and_Sinai.html was great when we were there with DD when she was 2....its has its own beach with safe netted off lagoon, & they were great with kids there, even though she was officially too young for the kids club, it didn't seem to matter that much

becauseitold- thanks for your info, i am thinking of booking with first choice do u mind me asking which hotel u stayed in?

We stayed here in a Junior Suite.

Twas lovely. [dreaming emoticon]

jbells · 24/01/2011 14:43

ive found good deals on the melia caribe tropical resort £900 pound off and the iberostar costa dorada resort the first one looks better and u get a junior suite but there is very mixed reviews and the iberostar doesnt look as nice from pics but has great reviews also the melia has a kids club DD cud go to as they cater for under 4's
sometimes trip advisor makes things more difficult (decisons) Hmm
