Families of 5

I'm finding it hard to book us a holiday and i'm shocked at how unhelpful the travel agents are, surely a family with 3 children isn't uncommon this days.

In the past i've booked it all myself but find this quite stressful and i worry because we aren't covered by abta and atol (is that the right letters?) we've hired villas in the past but they tend to be too far from the beach, restaurants meaning we need to hire a car, i've cooked at the villas before but how boring is food shopping and cooking in someone elses kitchen its meant to be a holiday for me too.

We want to stay somewhere very close to the beach and restaurants, my children are very shy so it doesn't matter if theres no kids clubs. Our ideal of hell would be a brits abroad place, we like the nicer hotels and dh is a foodie, would consider an all inclusive place, i have a budget of about 4k if its all inclusive. Is our budget realistic?

We really like cyprus and the greek islands, so welcoming with young children, but looking to go somewhere different this year. Dh is against going to france, any where spanish or turkey which doesn't leave much choice, i'm keen on malta but need sandy beach for the children.

Loved it! Their family rooms were basic but big enough for 5. Staff lovely, food nice. Hisaronu is about 10 mins away and a bit naff but OK. Olu Deniz lagoon is fantastic, the water is soooo warm. The Turks worship kids and make them very welcome. Lots of trips to do eg boat trips, paragliding, watersports. In 2009, flying to Dalaman, we spent £2000 for three. You can book yourself as lots of airlines fly there. I think I'm right in saying that booking via credit card means you're covered.
There's also the ultra posh Lykia Village along the coast from there but I gave up looking at their website when I realised that wasn't the price per day per room but per day per person!
Friend speaks highly of the Turquoise Hotel, Side.

We stayed here... although admittedly we did the Timeshare talk dealGrin which made it £99 for a week, for 5 of us.

But the Hotel is Fab,overlooks its own private beach, with lift/stairs down to it.About 8 swimming Pools, and about 5 really lovely restaurants.

We had two rooms, but had a small corridor to the main corridor and then a door,so it became one big apartment, but with our own "bedroom" door.
We had one self contained big double room, with balcony, and bathroom, and then there was a twin bedded room, and then a Double bed settee in the lounge.

There was a large bathroom,Kitchen with Fridge Freezer,Dishwasher etc. and a dining area, with lounge.

There was kids clubs, which our children enjoyed,we were able to sit by the childrens pool and sunbathe, whilst the childrens entertainers(animators) played with our children in the pool,a couple of feet away! It was like having a nanny!

There was a supermarket on the premises, but a short bus/taxi ride away was more shops etc.

we had a fab time, had to give up 1 morning to listen to the sales pitch, then we got on with enjoying our holiday.

Thought I would try and bump this - I've had a look at all below (it takes hours and hours and hours!!!) - we've been with Eurocamp (houses not tents!) before but they seem to be all booked up for bungalows and their villas this year have gone really expensive!

Added complication of travelling with 2 other families of 5 - so need 3 x 5 people accommodation.

Please come and tell us the best places for the strange people who chose to have more than the average!

please help!!!

We stayed at Amalia in Stoupa, The Mani, Greece. They were two bed apts with pool. Upside was lovely quiet place, clean good view, huge terrace; downsides, 10 min walk along road into Stoupa which was a big uncomfortable in when very hot.

But it was lovely place, clean beaches, decent tavernas etc

I know you don't want Greece but this place was lovely.

Normantebbit · 08/02/2011 19:26

Sorry phone typing fir me but you get the idea - stoupa ideal for a group as small place, easy to meet up even if not staying together.

loler · 08/02/2011 19:49

Norm - they look lovely - who did you book through?

loler · 08/02/2011 19:56

How did you get there too - where did you fly to and were connections easy?

Normantebbit · 08/02/2011 19:56

Greek Options are travel company

All places in Stoupa look great, it is a lovely place.

If I went again I'd find accommodation closer to the beach, but my kids are very small 18 months, 4 and 6.

We went from Manchester to Kalamata. We were met and put in a taxi to get there - beautiful 1 hour drive through mountains. We were put on big air con coach on way back which was good too.

If you have only been to islands, mainland is a revelation.

Thanks for the tip off - have emailed them for availability - looks perfect
