Hi There
We have been to Helsinki twice with three children, first time just one aged 6mths and more recently last june with age 9, 5 and 3. it is a great familt destination, but the weather can be variable. First time ( travelled in july ) weather was fab, v.hot ad sunny. This time, early june it was a bit wet.
We stayed in the serviced apartment, 'Stayat Parliament' and the location is excellent for families. Very central, walking distance to the city centre, all mods cons and a good kitchen /livingroom. We squeeezed in 5 fairly comfortably and the price was reasonable compared to hotels. The included breakfast is rubbish though, just stock up at the local mini market instead and use the kitchen.
In terms of things to do, the zoo is great and you can go there by ferry. You could spend an entire day there, bring a picnic though as the cafes there are extortionate.
Suomelina island is another great day trip by ferry, very inexpensive. We also visited the city beach and went to Tapiola where there are public outdoor swimming pools.
Any other questions feel free to ask, its a great destination with kids.

Thanks Finn77 (is there a clue in your name?!), I feel quite inspired.

We have the offer of accommodation so we are ok for that. We were debating the place - I was surprised that I know very little beyond Nokia, good educational results and Strongest Man in the World competitors!

I like the idea of travelling on the ferries to different places - we are big fans of Stockholm - and we are looking into trips to Russia.
