What to do in Yorkshire for a 2 yr old

We would like to take our dd who will be 2 on Saturday, somewhere nice.

We've thought of The Deep, Flamingo Land (but not keen).

Any other ideas?

TIA

If ya wanna stretch as far as doncaster, go to Sundown (think it has a .com address)

Nbg · 05/10/2005 21:05

We went there a couple of weeks back.

Will travel to most parts of Yorks and Lincs.

The Deep is rubbish (IMO), for very young children, in fact, come to think of it, its not that good at all.

Does she like trains?, or is she very girly?, cos DS has just had a great day at the railway museum in York. Theres an outdoor play area and a narrow gauge (sp?) train to ride on too. Its free entry but £6 to park but thats for all day so you can go into York itself later.

We were thinking of the RM as shes well into Thomas the tank engine atm.

It's a shame as nxt week there is a day out with thomas near where we live!

well, at that age you don't need to 'wow' them, do you? Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you? I'd say Big Sheep Little Cow or Monk Park Farm would make a wonderful day out for a 2 year old. Both are near York.

Nbg · 06/10/2005 09:05

We thought about Big Sheep little cow farmas it's near dh's work so it's an option but we wanted a handful of ideas just in case the weather turns bad.

the butterfly house at anston is good

Nbg · 06/10/2005 09:13

Is that Sheffield, Katzgutz?

Our other idea was to get the train to Sheffield and go and do something there butwe couldn't find anything on the net.

maze

Let us know what you choose!

shimmy21 · 06/10/2005 09:32

IMO don't go to Flamingo Land. More suitable for older ones and V tacky!! (sorry if I'm offending any Flamingo Land lovers.

We've been to all other suggestions (RM, Eureka, Big Cow Liitle Sheep etc) and can recommend them all. Forbidden Corner my boys love but have been told that some of the younger more sensitive children found it a bit scary.

Happy birthday dd!

another link

you must find something now. have fun!

Nbg · 07/10/2005 10:21

Well the options so far are...

Get on the train to Sheffield or Leeds (we are in Barnsley), have lunch and go and do something.

Get on train to York and go to NRM but not sure dd would really like it and we can go anytime really as my family are in York.

Big sheep little cow is a definate for another time though. It looks fab!

What type of thing do you fancy doing if you do go to Sheffield? And any ideas for lunch - what type of food do you like?

If you just fancy wandering round town, have awalk through the Peace Gardens, and the Winter Gardens - and have a look in the Millenium Galleries behind the Winter Gardens.

If weather isn't so nice there is Ponds Forge swimming - leisure pool type - right in centre.

Trying to think...

gingerbear · 07/10/2005 21:17

DD loves the Deep, but we are into fish in a big way in our family too. Eureka in Halifax would get my vote.

gingerbear · 07/10/2005 21:19

nbg, your help is needed here
