I know there is one in Syon Park, has anyone been there? Do the buttterlies fly around or can you just see them in cages? I thought there was another place in Surrey somewhere but cannot find it.

There's one in Essex that my friend has told me about "The Butterfly Farm" - her kids love it.

yes it's very nice, Syon park you kind of walk throught the butterflies' environment, and there's a reptile house next door

ive been to the one in edinburgh, the butterflies fly around your head, in a nice way, its not scary! and they land on the bushes etc, and you can go right up to them for a look.

the environment in a bit rainforesty, for the exotic types, and it can be a bit hot and humid for little kids, so take off big coats etc before going in

and their is usually a reptile and beastie bit, with leaf cutter ants and spiders etc for inquisitive children, and they have talks and hold sessions too

brilliant

The one in Stratford has butterflies flying all over. DH and DS5 were both scared. DD (1) and me enjoyed it!

There is a beautiful one in Lancaster you can sit in the tropical garde and have them land on you! It was two years ago so if you want to go you might want to look it up first. just in case

There used to be one between Yeovil and Sherborne (somerset/dorset border) Not sure if it's still going. A huge country house with large lovely gardens IIRC.

There one is Bedford that I've takn DD to a number of times.. once when she was in a pushchair I took her round and a huge butterfly landed on the tray of her pushchair. DD loves it.

It's exactly the same as NP describes - even down to the Leaf Cutter ants1

The one in Syon Park is lovely. Wear a hat with flowers, or a shirt with colourful pattern (flowers are good! ) and butterflies will come and land on you! Magical.

Syon park was great, especially for dp who had honestly expected dead ones pinned in frames....

ThingH · 04/10/2005 20:32

Here's google's front page on butterfly parks - Bedford comes first but if you put towns/counties near you in too something should come up

Have been to Lancaster which is fab - however would recommend going on a chilly day to appreciate the climate - we went on a hot September day and sweat poured off. Also went to Tropical World in Leeds with YG early in the year, that was better temp-wise, went in with coats and took them off after a while.
