Self catering in St Ives

We love St Ives, want to go there second week in July next year.

However - we now have a baby, who will be 12 months old next time we go. We need a recommendation for self-catering. Ideally centrally located so we can walk into town.

I know the parking is a problem in St Ives, I also know that some of the self catering places back onto the main beach, and gangs of kids tend to hang out there at night.

Can anyone recommend somewhere clean, quiet and convenient, with parking? Would consider the outskirts of the town if nothing central is available. We need two bedrooms and decent cooking facilities

we LOVE st ives and always book Lanhams aka St Ives Holidays. They are brilliant, used them about 5 times now. Parking is difficult, but last time we didnt even use our car, the weather was so great we just stayed on the beach or wandering around town, so it stayed in one of the main car parks.

We stay in the apartments that back onto the beach, and I wouldn't say there were bad/noisy 'gangs', in St Ives, they are a 'nice-sort' of gang, having a bbq on the beach!! Plus with the waves it drowns out any sound of conversation/people on the beach when you are in bed.

thanks bluesky

I'll look at their website.

I'm a light sleeper - that's the problem. I know the kids on the beach might be "nice" kids, but anyone having a bbq near my bedroom is going to keep me awake, unfortunately.

I think St Ives is heavenly

We always stay at St Ives Bay Holiday Park in one of the 3-bed A6's - I think the A5's are 2 bed. It meets all your requirements of clean, quiet -its in Hayle so a short drive into St Ives itself but has its own fabulous beach so we don't tend to bother going in as the kids love it there so much!

We used Lanhams too and found them really good. But do it SOON. We booked in Feb and had to have two weeks in different places 'cous everywhere was booked.
Isn't St Ives heavenly? It was our first time.
sigh.

This one's nice . It's in Hayle (a stone's throw from the best pasty shop in Cornwall!) on a nice quiet road (my great auntie used to live on this road) overlooking a millpond with ducks and swans. On the other side of the pond there's a little (very small) park with swings and things which a 12-month-old would like. Parking would be OK there. And you can get to St Ives easily by driving to Lelant Saltings (about 5 minutes) and getting on the park and ride train. Having said that, parking in St Ives itself might not be TOO bad outside of the school holiday period. If I drive to St Ives I always try to park by the station. If you follow signs to the main carpark it's a total nightmare to get down into the town, especially with a buggy (... and even more of a nightmare to get back up again).

Have fun.

Agree - St Ives is faarrr to busy for my liking! Ds got attacked by a seagull within the first hour of us arriving on our first visit - We hadn't seen all the signs at the time with notices over the vicious gulls

  • much prefer Gwithan Beach - large uncrowded beach backed by sand dunes - set in National Trust land

What about Carbis Bay? - little train into St. Ives takes couple of minutes. Much quieter - see recommendations on this website . Also you may have faintly more chance of finding somewhere with parking, which is practically nil in St. Ives high season (as no doubt you know!).

thanks for all your posts

Those pesky seagulls! My husband was merrily enjoying a lovely ice-cream with the mandatory blob of clotted cream on top, and one of them swooped down and nicked the cream
