Just that really. Not going until May but excitement is driving me to do my research!!

I do want to see the Guggenheim but don't want to do a full day - can I easily pick out highlights in half a day? Main thing I want to see is Kandinsky section.

Yes, you can do a half day easily. It is a great museum, the building itself is beautiful so make sure you walk around the outside, see the Louise Bourgouis sculptures by the river, and sit in the outdoor cafe for a glass of wine/coffee. I loved the Richard Sera installation (dont know if its still there) and .

Dont know how long you are visiting for but one word of caution is that we didnt really find that much else to do in Bilbao.

Have a lovely time.

Assuming you're talking about Guggenheim in NYC?
We went last May and Kandinsky's weren't on show ... best check.
Definitely doable in half a day. It's free admissions on some evenings and I've always gone for a couple of hours then.

Which city?

sungirltan · 03/01/2011 19:36

nyc is half a day. its not that big and you walk up it in a spiral walkway around the edge then there are little room off that but only a few. its fab though

Which one?

belgo · 03/01/2011 19:43

The one in NYC only took us a couple of hours because I'm not that interested in art.

Was meant to go to the one in Bilbao this year but the car broke down and we didn't make it.

Sorry - it's NYC. Sounds good then.

Thanks for all the tips.

If you went to NYC - any other must see/do tips.

We are going for 5 days in May.

The High Line - it's a park built on disused railway track raised above street level

We did the Guggenhiem new york in a couple of hours, was actually not that impressed with the art but the building itself was good.

The best thing we did in NYC was the 2 day hop on hop off bus tour, was a really good way to cover most of NYC.

When we were in NYC we bought a city card to visit ten or so tourists sites including the Empire Sate Building, World Trade Centre (this was quite a few years ago), Statue of Liberty etc. Certainly a value for money way of seeing the sites.

We were fortunate enough to do both Guggenheims within a couple of months, NYC one didn't take too long. We spent far more time in MOMA, which I'd highly recommend.

Enjoy.

Went to the NYC one in July, definitely only a couple of hours. Would recommend the New York Pass (as opposed to the City Pass) which gives access to more sights than the City Pass & can be bought for 1,3,or 7 days.(I think) We paid for it in advance, managed to book it online when they had it on offer as well Wink and it arrived in the post with accompanying guide book within 2 weeks. Found it very good to use & we certain;ly covereed our costs and were in hand by the time we finished. We were there for 5 days & bought a 7 day pass & still managed to everything we wanted plus a bit more.
Another tip, worth getting a one week metro card for use on the subway & buses, easy to buy at the subway stations & good value for money, also although you pay for one week the card is valid for about 18 months & you can just top it up next time you go!
