Hi,we are thinking of taking our 2 ds's to disneyland paris in easter, would we really need to stay onsite in a disney hotel? Is this part of the "magic"of it all.Has anyone stayed in a nice hotel in paris and used shuttle service to and from park? or is commute to much? we would probably only be going for couple of days and would like to see a bit of paris and do disney also.any advice, thanx :)

We stayed at Bussy St Georges - 40 ish minutes into central Paris and about 10 to DLP on RER/car/bus. Close enough that you can spend the evening at the parks, eat there and get back. Quite suburban area with several chain hotels (we used the Best Western) and usual amenities ie you can go to the supermarket for food on your way, or Val l'Europe has a number adjacent to the shopping mall.

stayed off park in the Holiday Inn I think it was. Circus themed rooms. It was good and well placed. Didn't do food there, just used it for a base (and used my priority points too) Good shuttle bus links to the park.
Recommend it for sure

We stayed here: www.hotelelysee.com/uk/accueil.php

Next to train station so you have the option of free shuttle or 1 stop on the train (when it's busy after the fireworks) Also opposite shopping mall and a couple of cheaper restaurants near by. Also do the extra Disney magic hours and are the only off site hotel that do this.

Hello Muminthesun

Had to reply as I did Paris both ways with DD1 Summer 2008. I wanted to do central Paris and was unsure of getting back to eurodisney late at night. I was also looking at ways of cutting costs.

So 2 nights we spent in an Ibis type cheap hotel in 'Paris' where i knew we could get a train into centre from.

Last two nights spent at MAGIC CIRCUS DISNEY HOTEL...not on 'site' but as posted above there is a bus which takes you from hotel to the park and runs regularly all day. The park is directly next to trainstation...where, you guessed it, you can get a train direct into Paris...and it operates until late at night think train from Paris back to disney we got was 22h and we got the shuttle bus back to circus hotel.

In short the hotels 'in' Paris were far too expensive and the ones commutable were in retrospect shite. The on site disney hotels are not necessary. The magic circus hotel was ideal - breakfast buffet/nice rooms/bloke in elephant costume at breakfast.

Really wished we had done all 4 nights there as the commute to central paris was easy - takes about 3/4 hour but flew.

Magic circus also had special rates with lastmin.com - we booked it separately then paid for a park ticket on the last day from the hotel.

Euro disney as always(used to do school trips there) part magical -tink's castle/the parades and part shite - rides/size. My DD who was 7 was excited first half then disappointed but i got the 1 park not 2 park tickets. Still extortionate compared with europa park/phantasialand.

sux2bsanta · 05/01/2011 18:43

*as in the 45 minutes on train flew by...not that we flew (sorry i am sleep deprived breastfeeding newie DD2)

** the shite hotels i refer to are any of the
etape/ibis/formule 1 type that claim to be in paris but are just as far to commute from as the magic circus was

DD1 loved eiffel tower/bateau parisienne/sacre coeur. Missed out on louvre (closed)/little white train at montmatre (time) but did all the rest monopoly style. Went to champs elysees for a cheap macdo (oui je sais) and also great picnic takeaway meal deal from bakery also on champs elysees (baguette/tarte or yoghurt/and drink 7 euro a head) bakers called something golden D'oree.

Got haggled deals with souvenirs from stalls furthest from the tower. Also avoided being fleeced by the portrait artists by using the automatic digital portrait machine in the magic disneyhotel. Stuck beret on DDs head, chose a style and cost 4 euro.

Thanks for your replys,SUX2BSANTA your suggestions sound ideal and JOLUFC will have a look at that hotel too

Sorry to hijack - but did you guys go by eurostar or drive.

We also want to go to Paris/disney at easter and I haven't a clue where to start - and we're on a budget.

stegasaurus · 08/01/2011 16:44

DH took me to Disneyland Paris for my birthday a couple of years ago. We stayed at Dream Castle Hotel, which is offsite but only a few minutes away by shuttle bus. It was a nice hotel, but I don't know how much it cost as the trip was a present. The food seemed very expensive but was probably cheaper or the same kind of price as eating at Disney which is the only alternative. I don't know how easy it would be to travel into Paris because we didn't do it, but the train station is at the entrance to the park so probably easy to get a train to the city centre. We went by Eurostar, but we went the year that there was a fire in the tunnel so the trains were all delayed. I'm sure it's usually an easy journey though, especially if you already live near London and you get a direct train to Disney and don't have to change (unlike us!).

magnolia74 · 08/01/2011 16:49

For anyone thats on a budget, find your prices online then ring World Travellers.

We are going 28th march (yes i know its not a school holiday!!) kids under 12 go free before 5th april
There are 7 of us so 2 rooms in santa fe hotel, ferry crossing, 4 day park tickets for us all, breakfast. £670!!!!!

Had found it for more then rang world travellers and told them and they found it much cheaper Grin

activate · 08/01/2011 16:51

kids under 12 are only free until feb - kids under 7 are free until april

activate · 08/01/2011 17:16

sorry my fault was thinking school holidays april not term-time

slalomsuki · 09/01/2011 16:04

If you are on a budget like we were and driving then you could book a mobile home with either Siblu or canvas holidays. We did that and they run shuttles to Disney but you have the flexibility of doing something else if you want.

magnolia74 · 09/01/2011 16:33

The only problem there is the tickets for disneyland are pretty expensive, We found that the cost of holiday inc passes was almost as much as buying the passes seperately Shock

MyrrhyBS · 09/01/2011 16:37

If you stay in a Disney hotel, you get into the park 2 hours early. This is a HUGE advantage for getting on rides before the megaqueues start!

Janye · 14/01/2011 10:37

I went to Paris last year with my hubby and child, we stayed in Paris at the Louvre Rivoli hotel, the suite is spacious and offers enough room for 4, but we stayed in the triple which is smaller but cheaper! Here's their website: www.parishotellouvrerivoli.com
To go to disney we took the RER A right next to the hotel, it's fast and dropped us off right at the parc! I liked staying in Paris rather than Disney, walking in the streets and picking delicious restaurants really made the trip a great experience. The Louvre and Notre Dame are also very close the hotel!
Hope you have a great time!

fedupwithdeployment · 14/01/2011 10:45

We went last Feb, and staying in a Logis about 20 mins away. To be honest it was not a huge success and ended up being rather expensive. I am not the world's greatest Disney fan, but if we go again, we would go for a Disney hotel, get the passes included and enjoy the early admission.

fedupwithdeployment · 14/01/2011 10:46

PS We then stpent a day in Paris which was great - DSs (5 and 3) loved it, possibly a bit more than Disney!

muminthesun · 24/01/2011 19:09

Hi,just caught up with this thread.lots of great ideas.

Fedupwithdeployment -I'm quite pleased that my ds1 is also looking forward to Paris as much as Disney. He says he can't wait to go to cafes,Eiffel Tower and eat long bagettes[SMILE]All inspired by a ratatouille dvd!
