Eurostar St Pancras Parking - Help!

Lenni · 21/12/2010 13:18

We are due to travel by Eurostar to Disneyland Paris in the first week of January. Due to the snow we've been advised that our connecting trains from Lancashire are likely to be affected and so we are going to have to drive to London the day before to make sure we are there in time to check in for the direct service - if it goes - at 09.44. We were meant to be getting a connecting train at 6am and there are no earlier trains (or later ones on the way back in case we are delayed) so the long slog down to London is the only option now.

We can break the journey with relatives overnight but will need to leave the car somewhere either near St Pancras or near a station with a good connection to St Pancras somewhere North/Northwest of London. I've tried parkatmyhouse and cheapest available parking is £55 near St Pancras - plus it's not secure so feel a bit Hmm about whether we'd come back to no car. NCP is £25 a day Shock. Does anyone have any suggestions of where else we could try that has a good service into St Pancras?

Hi,
We have travelled to DLP many times on the Eurostar, but have stayed overnight in a nearby travelodge, or caught an early train as you were planning to do, so we have never parked a car.
You could try asking this question on the Trip Advisor London forum, as the people there can help with most London related information and suggestions.
There is also a Trip Advisor forum for Disneyland Paris, listed under Marne La Vallee, where people can help with Disney information.
They have just had a lot more snow in Disneyland, it snowed all day there yesterday, causing some problems.

Sorry, but I don't think there is any such thing as airport style secure parking near St Pancras, unless you are prepared to pay NCP rates.

How about driving to Luton, parking there and then taking the train down?

Or maybe trying the National Express coach?

malovitt · 26/12/2010 05:58

How many days will you need? I have some visitors parking permits you could have for free- I'm about 4 tube stops from St Pancras and it's pretty safe round here.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 26/12/2010 08:03

We used an excellent underground secure parking place near to St Pan., they then took us to the station. When we got back late evening only a 5 min taxi ride and our keys were in a safety box for us and car waiting.
It was ridiculously cheap, about £40 for 4 days Shock

Will find the number and details then come back on.:)

Have a fab time, we did !

Hi, here is the website Lomax Parking

HTH :)

DecorhatetheChristmasTree · 26/12/2010 08:31

Yes somewhere like Luton Parkway, just off the M1 might work, direct train to St Pancras. The other option is to drive further to Ashford in Kent & get on there instead. Am pretty sure they have airport style parking.

malovitt · 26/12/2010 09:06

I love the Lomax blurb.

According to them, the station is just "a 12 minute walk away through the leafy streets of Camden."

They forgot to mention the grotty estates and the disused railway arches you have to walk past.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 26/12/2010 09:33

I would bite the bullet and pay the NCP rate of £25 per day (a not totally unreasonable rate for parking). At least you will know the car is secure.

malovitt · 26/12/2010 09:45

Oh come on - thousands of people park their cars in central London every day without any problems. I'm sorry but £25 per day is ludicrous.

OP, my offer still stands - I live nearby in a very safe street and I travel from St Pancras by train twice a week so am familiar with the journey.

It's simple from here, a quick tube trip or a direct single decker bus (with a designated pram space) from a stop less than a minute away which will cost you £2 per adult.

I've parked here for the last 15 years without anything happening to my car.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 26/12/2010 11:13

Yes, malovitt I agree, but as they drive you there, and get a taxi back, it really doesn't matter what the scenery is like. Xmas Wink

Lenni · 26/12/2010 13:02

Thank you everyone. Have looked into Luton Parkway and can park there for £24 for week (we're gone for 5 days) in NCP and get train direct to St pancras from there, takes 25 mins. Thank you malovitt for offer of parking permit, very kind of you. Have decided not to risk the drive into central London though as we don't know where we are going and worried about potential traffic early in morning. Now we just need to hope there is no more snow...

The Disney parks will still be busy until the school holidays end. Enchanted Christmas celebrations and Fantillusion parade end on 6th Jan.
If you are there for 5 days, you should be able to see and do everything in both parks without rushing.
Have you booked your dining reservations? If you are going in school holidays I would advise doing this.

Lenni · 26/12/2010 19:32

Have booked all the evening meals, and are going to take drinks and a few snacks for the children into the park to keep them going as between us all we are quite awkward to feed (I'm veggie, DD is fussy, DS is just turned 2yo so not yet fast food proof) so think we are best sticking to the restaurant meals where there will be enough choice for everyone. Have booked the half board vouchers but feel a little dubious about the saving we'll make given that I'm veggie going by the menus I've seen on the internet but we'll see.

We arrive on 5th Jan so miss the school holidays but get the last 2 days of the Christmas celebrations. I'm wondering whether they will start dismantling the Chrismtas things on the 6th though.

I'm now trying to make a rough plan for what we'll do each day as DD is a Disney character obsessed, thrill seeking 4yo (she eggs me onto rides, I dread to think what she'll be like at 18!) and DS isn't so keen on rides or characters! We've met big dressed up football mascots and Santa a few times recently to test the DCs out and DD has dived straight in but DS has cried so am going to have to see how we can balance out them both enjoying themselves. Am thinking of going to the aquarium one day to give DS a bit of a Disney break!

My DS2's girlfriend is also a non fish eating veggie. We had HB vouchers, but she found the choices we were given in the table service restaurants rather limited.
Agrabah Cafe buffet in Adventureland is very good for veggies, with nice theming. Plaza Gardens and Restaurant Des Stars are also all you can eat buffets, which is easier for kids under 3 as well, as you can give them food from the buffet.
We also like the buffets in the Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay hotels, but these are Plus category, so it depends what vouchers you have.
You save about 10% per voucher, and it includes a soft drink or bottle of water each.
You can choose from the main menu instead in table service places, but then your voucher is used like cash at face value in ?, and deducted from the bill. Using your voucher like this is not cost efective, and you don't get your free drink.
You are right, some kids can be scared of the Characters, especially the villains.
The Disneyland Hotel is a good place to see Characters during the day - ask at their reception desk what times they are in the foyer. We saw quite a few including Bert and Mary Poppins at about 4pm.
Locations and times to meet Characters are listed on the parks programmes, so check this when you arrive or online before you go.
They will probably dismantle everything overnight after the last day of Enchanted Christmas, although I read that Mickeys Winter Wonderland ice skating show will continue for longer.

Figgygirl · 27/12/2010 01:44

You get vouchers per night of your stay, so one evening we paid to eat at Rainforest Cafe in the Village, and used or vouchers for lunch in Agrabah Cafe on our last day.
Rainforest Cafe had good choices for DS2 GF.
