we are only going to suffolk and don't want to take our enormous highchair which when folded is still huge. any ideas of what we can do? we are staying in friend's cottage so not in a place where we can borrow one easily.

duno but just a thought, sometimes a local NCT group can help out in these cases!

Bozza · 27/09/2005 16:47

We use one of those booster chairs that you strap on to a dining chair (ours was about £14 from Argos). Actually we are on our second and have donated the high chair to my nephew so that DD can join us at the table. Useful also for Christmas lunch at in-laws, doing play-do, colouring etc at table with DS. Will see if I can do a link.

How old is the child - if younger could feed in car seat, push chair etc.

misdee · 27/09/2005 16:48

just usedto sit them on my knee or in the buggy if younger. if slightly older and able to, then they used to sit in normal chairs.

thop i may take dd3 bumbo with us on holiday next month.

Bozza · 27/09/2005 16:49

It's here

We have found it really useful. Maybe a friend has one you could borrow?

mommie · 27/09/2005 16:54

Fine for an 11mo IMO. My DD has been using it exclusively since about 13 months but before that used it on family visits etc.

We have a similar one made by Safety 1st, widely available, costs about £24 but which folds down even smaller. They are a great buy. Ours is four years old and still going strong.

i have a handbag highchair you can have for postage if you like - i dont really use it.

CAT me if you are interested

We had Ikea's cheapest chair with the legs that come off - white plastic and now about £11. It fitted in with the travel cot. Easy to pack and store. We have a HandySit now which is great when I remember to take it!

kath4kids · 28/09/2005 20:24

whats a handysit?

moondog · 28/09/2005 20:28

Iused to have a cloth thing that went over the chair (someone stole it!) but this time rond we just make do.Spend a lot of time abroad/away from home due to dh's job and I honestly believe that too much baby clobber ismore of a hassle than not having any.

Really!

(My ds is 15 mths and we set off on our travels when he was 14 weeks and have been back and forth (at least 6/7 times excluding hols)since then.)

swedishmum · 28/09/2005 22:46

HandySit is a folding wooden chair that attaches to most adult chairs - it's adjustable and easy to carry. About £50 though but I'm sure there are lots on ebay

had the safety first one which we used when visiting in the UK - but when we wer on holidays we just sat dd1 in the buggy. Now dd2 is here - when we go out she either sits on our laps or in the buggy. dd2 is 10 months old.

nailpolish,
what is a handbag highchair? i might be interested . i've been following this thread with interest!

cupcakes · 30/09/2005 17:02

this is a handbag highchair. We used one with dd when she was 15 months and it was brilliant in cafes and places where you wanted to eat at the table and the pushchair was too awkward.
There are also some for sale on ebay.
