Do you know Glasgow well?

We are spending a few days in Glasgow next week.

We're planning:
half a day at the Kelvingrove (it was closed last time we visited)
a full day at the Science Centre

Any other recommendations? Are there any Christmas markets or special christmas attractions in the city centre?

(The boys are 11 and 13, so don't suggest shopping!)

What has happened to the magnificent Borders store? Is it still a bookshop?

borders has closed down.

kelvingrove is open again - take a good 1/2 day there if not more.

What are they into - there is also the musuem of transport.

If there are sporty / adventourous - there is Xscape @ Braehead.

There is an ice rink, rides, nativity scene, live music and a few stalls in george square and also a xmas market down around st enoch square.

Weeonion - has anything happened to the Borders Store property? Is there another big bookshop in the city?

There's Waterstone's in Sauchiehall St (and a smaller one in Argyle St) but that's about it.

The German market in St Enoch isn't terribly exciting, I'm afraid.

What about spending the rest of the Kelvingrove day in the West End?

What's the West End?

The transport museum is currently closed.

Hope I'm not too late to answer this - I have just recovered from some hideous vomiting bug.

The West End has nice shops and cafes. Get the Underground to Hillhead, and wander up and down Byres Road. The Botanics are at the top of Byres Road, and it's nice for a walk.

The Gallery of Modern Art in the City Centre is worth a visit. There's a cafe and library in the basement which is good for sitting drinking coffee and reading mags if you're all sight-seeing'd out..

Thanks AgentProvocateur. We're staying at the SYHA, which is very near the Kelvingrove. So I guess very near this area you describe, Thanks for the tips.

Are the Botanic Gardens free? I can't seem to tell from their website. Hmm..

We are still hopefully going next week. Lots of snow here, but the trains are running pretty OK today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I think we went to GOMA last time Suzi, but may pop in again if we're in the city centre. I like to know of cafes around the place!

There's stilla cinema on Ashton Lane in the west end, I think.

The botanic gardens are free, as is the kelvingrove art gallery.

We have some snow just now, but not as bad as last week. Fingers crossed your trains wont be effected
