I went to Kalkan in July! Fantastic country! You can cash money with your debit/credit cards in the banks there and can pay for most stuff in shops with cards.
All I can say is go to the local markets for knock down bottom prices-always haggle in shops as much as you can and take factor 50 plus and WEAR IT!

Am v !

My mum is there now having a fab time!

Which part are you going to? There is a mumsnetter who lives there-I'm sure she will respond if she sees this thread!

I've been to Turkey 3 times now - I love it! I would get some Turkish Lira before you leave, then just get cash from the cash macines with your switch card when you get there. If you're planning on making expensive purchases (e.g. carpets), you might want to consider taking $US, but it's not essential.
My favourite activity in Turkey is going out on the daily boat trips - there's 2 different types, the big double decker boats, which tend to be crowded, or the trips on the sailing boats, which are more expensive, but much nicer (the double decker ones are still fun, but not as relaxing).

Also highly recommend going for a Turkish Bath. Stay away from the tourist ones and go where the locals go. The local ones have women only days, where you are washed and massaged by women (if there are men there washing women, it's not a traditional bath) - it's good to support these ones, as the tourist baths are taking jobs away from women (and personally I feel a lot more comfortable in the traditional ones!).

Have a great time - am very !!

We hired a whole gulet for the day from 9.30 to 5 pm with food on board, stopping at various places to jump off and snorkle for £120.00! So between six adults that was a fantastic day out for £20.00 plus some cheap booze!
