It's so cold and miserable here I want to plan my hols!

DH and I want to go away end Feb to somewhere that'll be warm. DS will be 16 months by then. We don't want to go too far but definitely out of the country, we were thinking maybe the Canaries, mainly for the temperature!

DH is trying to convince me to go for an all-inclusive break, so we'll basically be in a big hotel. He want's us to keep DS with us till we decide to go to bed, so around 11-midnight, each night. This would be the cheapest option.

I, on the other hand, am pushing for a villa or at least self-catering apartment. I don't want to keep DS up every night for a week (He really won't fall asleep in his pram at a bar, I know this for certain). So I want us to be somewhere, where in the evening we can put DS to bed, and then relax on a terrace / balcony with wine until we're ready for bed. I'll happily eat out with DS, but at 7pm, not 10pm! DH is happy for DS to be out of his sleep routine for 7 days, whereas I am most definitely not. He's not the best sleeper anyway and I'm sure I'd spend so much time stressing about his sleep that I won't be able to relax which defeats the object of going away!

DH is worried we're be isolated in a villa, and has now said that if god forbid we need medical assistance we should really have a rep to hand to help us.

Before DS came along we were backpackers, and those big all-inclusive places never appealed then, and do even less now! Money-wise we can afford the extra needed for a villa (a basic one, mind!).

So what do people think, and how do I persuade DH I'm right?!

The Canaries would be a good choice in February. I too would opt for the villa, it may sound like a good idea to keep your baby up until 11pm every night but it wont be so appealing if he is tired and screaming!

If a villa is too expensive why not look at renting a private apartment through somwehere like Holiday Lettings. You would then be less isolated. When you rent a vill or apartment they normally leave an information pack with details for doctors and medical emergencies and they als usually have someone you can call nearby. you can check to make sure of this before you book anyway.

I wouldn't worry about keeping your little one completely in a routine, a few late nights wont hurt but it is always good to ba able to put him to bed early some of the time too. I think a little bit of compromise may get you what you want.

I'm like you, those big AI places have no appeal to me at all.

How about Flamingo Beach Apartments at Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. We went here with Thomsons and it is now one of their First Choice Holiday Villages. You can choose to be all inclusive or you can have a nice 10 mins stroll along the seafront to get to the main town centre.

First Choice only run holidays there from May which is why I have linked to a private let, but not sure if one of the other companies takes it on for the winter period. We had a fab 1 bedroom apartment and it was great being able to put DD down and having somewhere just to sit and chill.
