a good London show to take DD to see (age 6)

Dh is taking DS to the Gadget show live in April (the ticket is his christmas present) and I would like to take DD to see a show (ticket can be her christmas present too).

We saw Oliver a while back but I think the storyline was actually rather dark for DD. Can anyone recommend something please? DD is quite girlie, loves music, I'd like it to be in Central London preferably but can travel.

Any ideas gratefully received.

TIA

sorry, crossed post with Blu. thanks Blu, I'll add those two too and start to have a look at the storylines. Which do you think I will enjoy the most?

I wonder about the age group for the Railway Children, set in the old Eurostar International station at Waterloo - and uses REAL trains! It's meant to be fab.

sorry, I should have said that I would like the tickets to be for April, the same time as DS goes out for the day with DH.

Mamma Mia will be on somewhere!

(Or Priscilla Queen of the Desert).

blondiemermaid · 01/12/2010 21:17

shrek the musical is out next year about april time i think

mckenzie · 01/12/2010 21:42

onimolap - I thought of that but i dont think DD will be able to follow the story line so i wasn;t sure how much she would enjoy it. She'll know most of the songs though!

I'm not sure about Shrek for DD BM - she's never been interested in the films.

Definitely Lion King- took my cousin to see it aged 7 and he loved it!

herladyship · 01/12/2010 21:45

be warned re: mamma mia

i took dd last year (aged 8) and she loved the music but didn't understand the storyline and kept asking about why the girl didn't know which one of the 3 men was her daddy

lion king is lovely Smile

thanks everyone. I have just booked Lion King for April school holidays. Horrified at the price though! We got the Oliver tickets during Kids Week so only paid the equivalent of half price. DD had better enjoy it Smile

More seriously than my previous post, try googling the Royal Opera House and Sadlers Wells to see if they have any of the "friendlier" ballets on. And check what's on at The Polka Theatre, The Unicorn Theatre and the Battersea Arts Centre.

MimsyRogers · 01/12/2010 22:22

The lion king is quite long. It's quite tough for a 6 year old I would say. But it is lovely.

elphabadefiesgravity · 01/12/2010 22:24

For a first show you can't go wrong with Lion King.

Priscilla is wonderful but full of the F word and lots of references to gay sex.

Mamma Mia again content not really suitable.

Wicked is great if a little dark, we wnet for Kidsweek.

DD wants to see Legally Blonde (she is 9) I am unsure, I saw it in October, it is a lot milder than the film but I'm still deciding.

LAlady · 14/12/2010 17:59

There is an advisory age restriction of 15+ for Priscilla, and having seen it a couple of times, there's no way I'd take my daughter (8) to see it!

Lion King
Grease
Mama Mia

are all productions that my daughter has seen and loved. I know people who have taken their children to Wicked but it's not something I think my daughter would like - a bit too scary (although I enjoyed it!).
