anyone taken a maxi cosi cabriofix car seat on a plane?

i'm flying to hong kong in january with my dd who will be 13 months. i'm booking a seat for her and want to use my maxi cosi cabriofix infant car seat, which she still fits fine.

however, i get lots of different answers about whether it will fit on the seat. ba and cathay tell me they only allow forward facing seats. klm and finnair say they allow most car seats but can't guarantee and lufthansa only allows a select few seats and the cabriofix isn;t one of them.

i don't want to buy a forward facing seat just for this journey and have to lug it through the airport when my cabriofix just clicks into the pram.

has anyone used the cabriofix on a plane and which airline was it?

any advice gratefully received!

I have used our maxi cosi cabriofix quite a few times on flights recently. We didn't have a seat booked for her as she's still tiny, but on most of the flights we have had a seat free next to us and used it on there.

I think it actually depends on the staff on the day. I've been with Lufthansa where they have let us have DD on our knee when we took off and then sit in the seat for the whole flight. I've also been on a Lufthansa flight where they let her take off it in it.

We recently flew long haul with KLM and they also let us use the seat, but again not for take off.

So not really helpful as it hasn't been consistent, but I'd be surprised if they don't let her sit in it whilst actually flying.

thanks for your reply. did the cabriofix fit any seat? or did you have the bulkhead seats? if not, did it stop the person in front reclining their seat?

i really wish airlines were more consistent about these things!

I have never tried to use a carseat onboard and wouldn't ever bother personally. If they're small enough for an infant seat you can use the supplied bassinet instead, which is better because they sleep flat. I've always checked the cabrio fix.

We used the car seat in both bulkhead ones and also normal ones. Can't remember if it stopped someone reclining their seat or not - I guess it didn't or the seat in front of us was free.

For sure you LO at 13 months wont' fit in a bassinet. My DD only just fit in it last time we flew long haul and she was 5 months. We have an 11 hour flight coming up with her on our knees unless we happen to have a free seat next to us - can't hardly wait!

Consider flying BA. They have seats designed by Britax that go onto the shelf that the bassinet sits on. They are a like a rocker seat for a small baby that doesn't rock. The seat on it reclines to almost horizontal for sleeping or can sit upright for feeding or playing. We used these several times flying long haul to Sydney and they were great. DD1 was in still it at 14 months old and she was an average size.

Kekke-my average sized 20mth old has just done 12hrs in a bassinet?? And if OP baby fits in cabriofix more then likely will fit in bassinet?

Sorry to go off topic..

Girl next to me on flight last week (emirates) strapped her baby into plane seat in Cabriofix for take off/landing.
