Where to find chestnuts

Would love to take our daughter picking chestnuts (to cook and eat) but can't find anywhere on internet on the locations of such forests (if any at all). We used to do it all the time as kids where I'm from (Croatia), but my dh reckons there may not be anywhere in the UK... Help!

There are a few eating chestnut trees (behind the cafe at the top of the park) at Greenwich park. Millions of horse chestnuts as well

There are definitely places where you can go chestnutting, my dad used to take me all the time when I was a kid. Many local woods and copses have chestnut trees in them. Whereabouts are you - local MNers might be able to point you in the direction of your nearest wood.

Well - I did wonder whether just to let you ramble on - but was a little worried about how many more tree sites you might be googling for and thought I should point you in the right direction

MrsWood · 19/09/2005 23:07

Oh no, they're usually having their sleep at nursery around 12.30/13.00 till around 14.00/14.30, so I will have to give this opportunity a miss (she gets quite wingey if she's had no sleep) - but how about some other time - maybe for a coffee in town or play in the park?
