Weekend in London with 12 and 5 yr old

We're going up to London next Friday night, coming back Sunday afternoon.

Although I lived in London about 10 years ago and have done the major attractions, I haven't done/seen everything and would really like to make the most of the weekend.

What do you think would be the best with two girls aged 12 and 5? Was thinking possibly Natural History/Science Museum, or maybe Museum of Childhood, plus Covent Garden and DD1 wants to go to Harrods.

Have seen that Kensington Palace has an Enchanted Palace Exhibition which they may enjoy - has anyone been? I'd love to go to Tate Modern again as I've not been for about 10 years but wonder if there is enough to keep the children interested?

Any other recommendations gratefully received, plus ideas of a good child-friendly restaurant for Friday evening (DD2 is v. fussy) - we will be staying in Mayfair.

i really like the transport museum in convent garden (kids are free) its brilliant fun and recently spent 5 hours there with 11 yr old!

also the nat history museum is fab for all ages.

i'm told that Somerset house is good, think they have skating?

Have you thought about fod - dim sum in china town is good - go in happy hour (afternoons) we always go to 'chinatown' restaurant. Good and not expensive

I took my dd and her friend (5) to enchanted palace and they loved it. I did put quite a bit of effort into helping with the trail as it was a bit difficult - but it is beautifully done.
The bigger museums get really busy - so head to them early. V&A has lots of activities every day - museum of childhood is fab, but your older one might find the interactives to young for her. Tate is always worth a visit. How about the London Eye, or a boat trip between both Tates.
I like Carloucios (sp) - they do a great child menu or Wagamama
Enjoy

My dd (4.5) LOVES the science museum (they also do activities/shows for children, see their website), also Royal Observatory in Greenwich has nice shows for children (BUT DO NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE!). Also, if you are in science museum, there are nice playgrounds in Hyde Park if weather is okay. Similarly, there is a nice playground near the Royal Observatory in Greenwich park. Have a lovely time!

We go into London a couple of times a year for weekend breaks. My 3 - 12,10 and 8 - always nag to go on an open top bus tour, especially in the Winter. They love the museums which have masses for kids to do and you can spend a day in the science or Nat history quite easily. We went one evening to Ripleys which has gruesome things that kids all love and stays open v late for a staying out treat that kids love. Also went 2 weeks ago and the lights are starting to go up which look great.
