Has anyone been? ds2 is extremely keen, but dh is not impressed with the publicity he's seen. Apparently there are no genuine artefacts, just all replicas.

What do you reckon? Is it worth the money? (Worth the queues/traffic jams near the Trafford Centre in order to get there?)

Just marking my place. DD wants to go and see this, and wondered what it was like.

I went to see a replica display of the terracotta army in the summer and was impressed. I think that there will be a huge problem with insurance for the originals plus there is still supersticion wrt the curse.

Personally i plan to take ds because whilst it is not the real thing it will give him a really good appreciation for what the real thing will look like and an understanding. I suspect that an obessive child who knows all the historical indepth details might be disappointed. but for ds, he will be happy enough.

Has anyone been ? I'm planning on taking DS in half term. Is it worth the trip? Is it feasible to get to the Trafford Centre by public transport - we'll be coming into Manc Piccadilly by train then out on the Metro then bus link??

mercibucket · 13/02/2011 17:05

We went on one of the cheap nights and it was worth it then - the replicas are fab and my telly obsessed kids loved the films - it has had good reviews afaik - which bad reviews did your dh see? Don't think I'd pay full price though

ravenousbugblatterbeast · 13/02/2011 21:27

Orange are doing 25% off, so not quite as expensive as it could be...

serin · 16/02/2011 19:50

My DS went with school and absolutely loved it, however the gift shop was ridiculously overpriced.

ravenousbugblatterbeast · 16/02/2011 21:35

Now there's a surprise...! I wonder if you can take photos of the exhibits? They're not real museum pieces, but there might be copyright issues?

mamatomany · 20/02/2011 13:08

My daughter went with the school and loved it.

Thanks. We're going on Thursday, so hopefully will be a good day out!

Portofino · 22/02/2011 19:25

Oh this is on in Brussels from April. I plan to take dd.

ColdHeartedBitch · 22/02/2011 19:35

Yes you can take pictures as long as you dont use a flash. Ds loved it but it was very very busy and the adults were ready to go before he was. The guide books was the only thing purchased as agree that most of the stuff in the gift shop was seriously over priced. However, the guide books are more like refence books then guides so comparable in price to that sort of thing. Glad we went but wish we had gone when it first opened and less well known about. The number of other visitors was exhausting in the space.

Fab day out though. ds is telling everyone he meets about it.

ravenousbugblatterbeast · 23/02/2011 15:39

Thanks CHB, that's really useful, esp about the guidebook, as my knee-jerk reaction is "No thanks", [la la la, fingers in ears] as they're usually overpriced rubbish.

ravenousbugblatterbeast · 24/02/2011 22:02

We went today, and thought it was fab. The craftsmanship in the replicas was fantastic, and you can get sooo close, although the lights were pretty low so the "candlelight" setting on my camera was "a good thing". The audio guide is included in the price, and you get a child's version for DC which is a really nice touch. I think the adult guide was voiced by Stuart Hall though, which was a bit weird..!
