Greenwich for a day out

As DC still on half term I am planning to take them to Greenwich for the day on Wednesday as we've never been. Any hints and tips please? they're 9 and 11. In particular was thinking about a trip down the river to Greenwich. TIA

Observatory
Greenwich Park
Maritime Museum
Greenwich Market

My mum lives about fifteen minutes away by bus and we visit a lot, but my kids are a bit younger so they might not appeal so much to yours. Lots of little shops and nice independent restaurants there too.

Forgot the Cutty Sark too and The Queen's House if they are into art and architectural design

Thanks; anyone know anything about river trips?

Oh you're making me jealous Envy.

We were in London in March and spent a lovely day at Greenwich - absolutely loved it. The Observatory and Maritime Museum were fab.

I hope you have a great time Smile.

The curry sark is still shut from the fire I think. You can get the river boat from where the curry sark is though, goes up to embankment. You might be lucky, the ice rink might hve opened for Christmas... It's near the Naval college.
Go to the swan for lunch-lovely food!!

Bad point is that I think Johnny Depp had finished filming now. :-)

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 02/11/2010 09:38

yes, river trips go from just past the cutty sark, to london bridge and back again.

camerondiazepam · 02/11/2010 20:39

I would check out the planetarium shows at the Observatory.
Where is the Swan wallababy?

where are you in london? you can get the dlr to greenwich (not sure if thats part of the tube strike, probably not)

FakePlasticTrees · 02/11/2010 21:43

oh - I used to live in Blackheath and I really miss being able to pop over to Greenwich! There's a stall on the market (or at least there used to be) that sells the best chocolate cheesecake brownies!

the observatory is v good, and greenwich park is good for running off excess energy (although the hill from the market back up to it is a bit of a killer)

I always get a bit Sad about having moved to outside the M25 when I think about how lovely Greenwich is...

We'll be travelling into London Marylebone.

you can get a bus (453)to charing cross and then a train (overground) to greenwich - it looks like the bus takes about 30minutes, then the train to Greenwich takes about 20 minutes

ohnoherewego · 02/11/2010 21:58

It'll be rammed tho won't it with a tube strike?

OP posts:
nancy75 · 02/11/2010 21:59

or from charing cross you can get the boat to greenwich and then back later?

nancy75 · 02/11/2010 21:59

the bus might be depending on the time, trains coming out of london should be ok

ohnoherewego · 02/11/2010 22:39

Thanks
