easyjet - practicalities??

I'm planning on booking some flights with easyjet for me and my 9 month old son. I've been searching their website but for some reason (probably sleep deprivation...Smile) I can't find the answers to some questions, namely:

(1) I understand that my son can travel on my lap and I don't need to buy a separate seat for him. Do I need to let easyjet know that I intend to do this (so that they can provide the additional baby seatbelt)?

(2) What about his pushchair? Does it get counted towards my 20kg baggage allowance or is it separate? Does he have any other baggage allowance (e.g. can I take his carseat, too)?

If anyone has recently travelled easyjet and knows the answers to these questions, your help would be much appreciated!

buggy does not count as luggage, and afaik neither does the car seat. At every airport i have used you can take the buggy right up to the plane doors which does make life easier!.

When you book you still have to book him as an infant so they will know they need an infant belt.

I know easy jet gets a bad press, but we have travelled with them loads since dd was very small and have always found them to be really good when you have kids - you also get priority boarding as your child is under 5

Buggy def not part of the allowance....not quite as sure about the car seat. They do have quite a good FAQ bit on their website that may help?

As nancy says, you will book him as an infant so he will be free, but they know they have one on board for belt etc. And yes, I have found them fine with children, and always got priority boarding.

thinking about it we took a car seat last year, they don't put it on the scales, so they don't count it

Oh - when you get to the other end the buggies are not always there at the aircraft. You may need to get them from baggage hall. Just be aware of this when planning what you are carrying to make sure if necessary you can carry bags and him Ok for a fair distance. Nothing more stressful than having too many bags to carry plus grizzly child...

Travelled to Alicante with easyjet with my then 6 month old DD this August.

Baby lapbelts were handed out on boarding - didn't need to let them know earlier.
No problem with taking pushchair - doesn't count as luggage and can take it right up to plane doors, also allowed to board first.

The man at check-in also told us that with easyjet, anything after the decimal point doesn't count so you can effectively take 20.99 kg each and it will count as 20kg.

I love easyjet, never had a problem with them.

They will provide his seatbelt on the flight, when you book him in as an infant, they'll know that he'll be on your lap. Pushchair & car seat isn't counted towards your baggage allowance, can take pushchair to steps of plane. Link here
We always go easyjet so quite used to checking all the info Grin

Thank you so much for all the replies! I've been reading the easyjet website all morning trying to find the answers...

Another one, does the buggy I take to the gate have to be a fully collapsible stroller or could I take our travel system (where you have to separate the seat from the wheels to fully collapse it but does it then count as two items)?

I'll be travelling on my own and trying to cut down on the stuff I'm taking but it's so hard with a baby!

It says in 'Carrier regulations', find under Help on easyjet website, that you're not allowed a 'full size pram', would yours come under that?

Dont take a buggy that cant withstand being chucked about by the handlers as well.

IME it sometimes comes out at the gate and sometimes on the luggage belt and they dont tell you which is which so we have left it on the tarmac before when we assumed it would be on the belt - mostly far flung places these though which with easyjet only really means morocco.

Indith · 01/11/2010 11:33

AS others have said, book him as an infant and you will be given a seatbelt for him on the plane.

He does not get his own luggage allowance, nor does he get hand luggage but I have never had a problem with easy jet in taking both handbag and change bag.

Be careful taking both buggy and careseat, I believe you are allowed one piece of baby stuff for free (buggy, carseat or travel cot) but not more than that.

I have been on easyjet with my children and it has always been good. When you book your child as an infacnt they will know he is going to be sat on your lap. You can take your buggy free of charge and use it up until you get on the plane.

You will get priority boarding with a child under 5, after the speedy booking people.

I haven't flown with Easyjet since DD was born, but have been with BMIbaby, SAS, Monarch etc - I think there will be a small charge for your DS.

Think it's usually about £10-20 each way. For that on other carriers, we have had a 10kg baggage allowance for DD (added on to our own allowance rather than an extra bag) and been able to take a small hand luggage bag for the flight too.

Monarch/SAS let us take car seat and buggy (1 or two piece) free of charge, BMI were buggy only.

Assume it will be the same on Easyjet so there will be some charge although not a full fare as he won't have a seat.

Take a foldable buggy its easier for you. Especially if you are trying to fold the thing and hold the child. Also if you are returning to Gatwick then bring a sling or a baby carrier - its a long walk with handluggage and a baby ! ( been there done that with a 1 yr old and 4 mths pg!)
Easy Jet I have found to be great , helpful and never any problems when travelling with the dds.
