What food can be taken on flights? Flying to US and want to know if can take snacks on for DS e.g. biscuits, sandwiches etc. Can only see rules for liquids....

You can take anything that can be bought once you've gone through passport control and security.

They will feed you on flights!

I know we'll get fed, but not that keen on airplane food, and Ds eats for Britain!
Thanks for replies

You can take any food as long as it is not liquid/gel, so that means no drinks or yoghurts etc unless you buy them after security checks.

I always travel with lots of food for the children - we do a return 12-hour flight every year, they are vegetarian and airlines don't really cater for vegetarian kids, they have always hated the airline food they have been given, and it always arrives at the wrong time anyway.

I take fruit (apples, satsumas, grapes etc), biscuits, sometimes cheese, sandwiches and so on and have never had a problem getting it through security. You will probably have to dump all uneaten food at the other end because of customs regulations though, at least any fresh stuff like fruit, dairy, or meat.

Just remember to put all the "perishable" food you have not used during the trip in a bag and bin it before you pass customs on arrival airport, if they catch you with it in the bag you may get into trouble.

Tefal, they only feed persons older than 2 year old. Food for young children is rarely provided.

I've flown longhaul many times with DS who was fed from 6 months onwards if I wanted jars.

You can take pretty much anything through. We take a couple of those ella's kitchen or plum type sachets through in the clear plastic bag and haven't had any trouble.

We flew to the USA a few days ago and I took lots of food for DC3 and 4. DC4 is under 2 so they don't provide anything and DC3 is quite fussy and won't eat most of the airline food. We took ham sandwiches, mini sausages, crips and fruit and just made sure it was all gone before we landed.

Ref under 2's, it really does depend on the airline whether they provide anything. Emirates and BMI always do, BA do sometimes and Virgin didn't. I'd rather take it than have a starving little man on arrival.
