It depends on whether you are looking for a really lively holiday or a queit laid back on as there are lots of different resorts served by Dalaman airport: Fethiye, Calis Baeach, Olu Deniz, Hisaronu, Marmaris, Icmeler, Turunc, Ovacik, Dalyan, Kas, Kalkan, Gocek and Patara.

they are all different so you really need to think about your resort first.

Have a look on Trip Advisor, they have lots of resort and hotel reviews on there and it may help you narrow down your choice a bit.

Personally I love Marmaris. We have cheap accomadation there for next year in a bar I know is really friendly.

Like I said it's bar, not a hotel and I'm not sure if he is only taking bookings from people he knows next year. But I can always ask. It's not flash though, but the staff are lovely and the drinks/food are really good.

If you decide on Marmaris anyway PM or something and I can reccomend you some nice hotels.

thankss guys, it won't be a lively holiday as we are going with yound children, so somewhere family friendly and not too far from the airport. Have now found a couple of hotels. We are planning on going AI but if we don't can you give me an idea of what things cost there. thanks

Prices vary from season to season and resort to resort, but this year (in Marmaris) drinks were roughly 9/10 lira for a vodka and coke and 6/8 lira for a local beer. Soft drinks were expensive. They were also 9/10 lira. A lot of places had bogof offers on drinks. But soft drinks weren't always included.

Food was good. A breakfast was roughly 5/7 lira and main meals about 15-20 lira with children half price. Again the stuff the kids like (ice-cream etc) is the most expensive a small sundae was about about 10/12 lira.

The cost of day trips always vary wildly. Never take the first offer if you're booking via the agencies. Always shop around and haggle.

Which resort have you decided you are staying in?

hannahthespanner · 12/10/2010 14:07

I think probably Fethiye, thanks for the info

Fethiye is nice, I wouldn't advise Marmaris if you want a quiet holiday!

If you do choose to go AI please do lots of research because if you find a deal that looks to good to be true it probably is. Unless you pay a lot for a good quality hotel AI isn't always the best option. there are a lot of hotels which claim they are 3 or 4 star but are really bad so do check hotel reviews before you book.

I would personally choose to go self catering as it can be very cheap to eat out in Turkey particularly if you go to moer local type of restaurants rather than the obvioulsy touristy ones.

Turkish people love children so yuor little ones will be well looked after over there, it is very child frienldy.

We're flying to Dalaman this Thursday 21st October, staying at the Hilton in Sarigerme which is about 10km, or is it 10 miles? (not sure), from Dalaman. Will feed back on here on my return.

SpiritualKnot · 16/10/2010 07:36

Here's a link to feedback: Hilton

Thanks everyone, we are now toying with the idea of sc as the apartments are so cheap. Decided on Olu Deniz, Fethiye or Calis beach, so narrowed it down a little!

Dalyan is gorgeous and less touristy than other places.

Nefret · 19/10/2010 11:16

I always think SC is the better option as you can then go out and eat at all the wonderful little restaurants they have around.

Fethiye is a lovely town but it doesn't have much of a beach so if you particularly want a beach then you would do better to look at nearby Calis or of course Olu Deniz has a beautiful beach.

hannahthespanner · 20/10/2010 15:01

thanks again guys! We are now also looking at Hisaronu which is slightly inland but looks nice

OP posts:
Nefret · 21/10/2010 11:34

Hisaronu is a lively resort not far from Olu Deniz and you can catch a mini bus down to the beach easily.

hannahthespanner · 25/10/2010 13:00

Thanks nefret

We are thinking about booking these apartments
