Flights Advice - I don't understand

I haven't booked flights for years and I just can't figure it out.

I looked up prices for flights within Europe 6 weeks ago and the cost was about £750. I checked again last week and they cost £1000. I was going to book today and they cost £1300.

These are exactly the same flights with the same company.

What's going on? What's the best way to book flights?

They become more expensive closer to the departure date - best thing to do is book several months in advance.

These are for flights 6 months away. So am I best to just book now? Will they continue to go up, life?

Yes, the price will usually increase the later you leave it.

Also with the economy companies- and maybe others I dont know- they go up every time they are viewed so popping in and out to check or sending the details to other people to look at creates an impression of market force and sends the prices up too

It is very common for them to go up quickly so to get low prices you have to book early. They continue to go up the closer you get to departure.
