Hi there

We're planning an autumn getaway sans enfants in Paris (Mid November probably).

Probably get there friday night, leave sunday after lunch...anyone have any top tips and ideas for the perfect weekend.

Hotel - don't mind forking out a bit for a really nice couple of nights.

Where to eat Friday....atmospheric/not too lively though.

Saturday daytime stuff to do/place to lunch

Decadent Saturday restaurant/night out....where does Carla Bruni have her tea on a Saturday?!

Sunday stroll round a market or something.

Any suggestions/thought would be most welcome

Many thanks.

You cannot go to Paris without going to the Lido de Paris.
here
Everyone tends to think Moulin Rouge but this is more classy.
It's a fabulous show for the Saturday night and the food is exquisite. Yes, it's pricey but the atmosphere is unforgetable.

You also can't go to Paris without going to the Louvre, or at least the Musee D'Orsay.

A go on one of the many Merry Go Rounds is a must.

Friday night meal - Fouquet's- 99 Avenue Champs Elysees.

A good idea for sightseeing is the open top bus tour, where you can get on and off over the city.

If you want to go up the Eiffel Tower, then book a table at one the restaurants - the one on the first level is quite reasonable - then you go straight to the front of the queue! You can book online

Sunday brunch is Mont Marte would be nice

Second the Musee D'Orsay and I also love the Rodin museum. Sunday morning I would recommend a trip to the Sacre Coeur and a wander round Montmartre. The Batobus is a good way of getting about as well.

We had dinner here in one of their private dining rooms. It was fantastic! You ring a bell when you want attention. Not cheap but very romantic for a special occasion.

Oh i'm jealous! We went to 'L'institut du Monde Arabe' (hope i have that right!) basically a museum with lots of islamic art and history, which is interesting in itself, but the building is wonderful - apparently designed by a prominent architect, not that i know anything about that sort of thing, but worth seeing! Also a wonderful terrace on the top with great fews of Paris, and a little cafe which was very nice when we went.

Might sound wierd but i loved looking round Pere Lachaise cemetary - lots of famous people buried there, Jim Morrison, Oscar wilde... Worth getting a guide because its huge. If you're going to the Louvre, on the first Sunday of the month its free (or was when we went). Also, don't use the main entrance! There will be a huge que. Walk past the que, keep going, there will probably be a smaller que further on, in between two huge lions. Have fun!

The river cruise is very good. You see just how pretty Paris is and water is always romantic.
Also they tell you to snog when you pass under one of the bridges so you will return...any excuse!
