<<It is the second year the Poulton festival has turned to a World War II theme - this year celebrating the 60th anniversary of VE and VJ Days. Special guests of the organisers will be more than 50 local war veterans who will be treated to highlights including a beach battle re-enactment on Morecambe's Central beach on Saturday, just after noon. But the festival supported by a grant from the National Lottery will also feature a World War II display in Poulton Memorial Hall, entertainment at Smokey's, the Morecambe Ex-Servicemen's Club, militaria and dealers' fairs and a Victory Parade on Sunday morning. Living history re-enactors will fill the former Frontierland site, which will be base camp' for US Army units, and there will be dozens of military vehicles, ranging from tanks to motor cycles, all over the town. An air display from the Red Arrows will be the highlight of the Morecambe Heritage Gala on Sunday - but there will be street theatre and musical entertainment and the arrival in town of the Bradford to Morecambe Historic Vehicle Rally, with hundreds of vintage vehicles on display on the West End promenade, to add to the mix. The entertainment which butts up against Poulton's Victory Weekend' celebration starts at noon with acts including daredevil ladder walker Mark Segal, Avanti Display's famous Spurting Man, Bruce Airhead and fun with the Mahoney Brothers. There will also be music from Latin and African rhythm band Mojito, Seventies style jazz from Get Carter and the Baybeat Carnival Band plus walkabout' performers Big Heads, the Flying Buttresses and more. The Red Arrows are due to fill the skies at 2pm, followed by the Battle of Britain Memorial Fly Over with a Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane at 2.40pm. More information is from the festival hotline on 01524-582803 or at Lancaster and Morecambe Tourist Information Centres.>>
